Kirk Watson: Veterans Day

Veterans Day
Wednesday is Veterans Day, when we pause to remember and honor those who have protected us and defended all of the good this nation stands for. We especially thank those who died for that cause.

It's a terrible coincidence that this moment falls less than a week after the worst shooting to ever occur at an American military base. Americans who were prepared to put themselves in the line of fire because of their commitment to their country were killed and wounded at a place where they surely felt safe and protected.

Wrapping our minds around something this senseless and horrifying is impossible. But our thoughts and prayers should be, and will be, with those who gave and give so much of themselves in service for us – and with the families, friends and loved ones who feel the loss most strongly.
