Rochester Reads Title Announcement
Today we had four students speak at the title announcement about why the liked the two RR books. The kids did a great job, and I wanted to record their comments...
Home of the Brave
By: Katherine Applegate
I like this story because it teaches you a lot of things that many people never get to learn about. It reminds me of things that I did when I was a child. I used to play games with my brothers and they used to play tricks on me just like Kek and Ganwar.
I would recommend this book to others because it teaches you about the refugee experience. Kek is a great kid. He barely knows any English. He lost everything that he loved like his brother and father. He had a hard time adjusting to life in America, but the never gave up.

Muktar and the Camels
By: Janet Graber
I like this book because it is an interesting story. It is about a boy that lost his mother and father. He loves camels. I know something about camels. I used to have camels too in Africa. This story reminds me of the camels that I had. That’s why I like reading this story.

I like this book because it reminds me of life back in Sudan. I used to live in Dedab, Sudan. Muktar was a Somali boy. I am a Somali boy. My grandma tried to get me camels just like the three Muktar had in the story.
I would recommend this book to everyone because it teaches us about life in Africa.
