Greener Than Thou?

by Sarah Palin on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 6:36pm ·

Why is Governor Schwarzenegger pushing for the same sorts of policies in Copenhagen that have helped drive his state into record deficits and unemployment? Perhaps he will recall that I live in our nation’s only Arctic state and that I was among the first governors to create a sub-cabinet to deal specifically with climate change. While I and all Alaskans witness the impacts of changes in weather patterns firsthand, I have repeatedly said that we can’t primarily blame man’s activities for those changes. And while I did look for practical responses to those changes, what I didn’t do was hamstring Alaska’s job creators with burdensome regulations so that I could act “greener than thou” when talking to reporters.

Arnold is rediculous, he has destroyed our state. Global warming is a joke. The planet always heats and cools, it is ALIVE. And the ocean shores change. I just moved from the central valley (full of sand and agriculture) which USE TO BE OCE...AN ! CA and the the rest of the planet are ever changing. "Green people are ignorant and fall for every rediculous thing they hear." I now live in Paradise CA and will be pushing for Republican (I used to be democrat but now that they are all SOCIALISTS leading us into poverty) I hope to be voting for SARAH in 2012. • Linda Hill Man made global warming is a massive fraud. If it weren't there would be honest debate instead of covering up the fact that the climate models have not predicted the cooling cycle we are in. The Climategate scandal is far worse that Watergate and the enviornmental extremists will not allow scrutiny of their own emails questioning their science.

Josh, Adam mentioned that he was an Environmental Studies major. He didn't imply or claim that his position is completely authoritative just because of that. Sure, you could classify that statement as an argumentum ad verecundiam, and if th...at's fair game to you, then I'll go ahead and point out that you used argumentum ad hominem in addressing Tim. If you really want to have a discussion about this issue, then do so. Pointing out these petty technicalities about other people's arguments is pointless, and with that being said I'm going to lay out my position.

Sarah Palin and all other politicians ought to listen to the real experts on climate change, and carry out plans to address it. If the immediate economic effects are less than desirable, then so be it. But it's not the case that that necessarily must follow more environmental regulations. If industry is forced to comply with standards, then they will have to devise new means of doing things, which could possibly have highly desirable effects economically if carried out correctly. It's not as if the way our economy is structured is only workable option. Why don't we ask ourselves, how ought our economy be structured so that needs and wants can be met in a sustainable fashion?

i am old enough to remember all the factories in Marion, Indiana. that city had so many christmas decorations being produced it was actually nicknamed, Christmas City USA. To me, it seemed Marion and Grant County, had a factory just about e...very mile down the main roads. Lets see if i can remember some of them. RCA, General Tire, General Motors, Essex Wire Corporation, Foster Forbes which was a large glass factory, Owens Illinois, another large glass factory. Dana Corporation a very large producer of automative parts, Pierce Govenor, a large producer of zink melted from automotive parts. i remember there were 3 large glass factories, around 3 paper factories, several automotive support factories, the christmas tree light factory and many electrical wire type businesses supporting other factories.
i am saddened to say today, those factories are closed. To my knowledge, only General Motors still operates there, but i have heard at a lower rate of production. The people there who worked those jobs were all laid off. house prices plunged. Welfare is the norm for the income of the people. with out welfare, Marion wo!!uld be much worse than a third world country. a lot of third world countries dont battle a cold winter. You wont die there from freezing. Simply put, Marion is already worse off than many third world countries if u take away all the government help.
It seems who ever pushed the idea of a open market agenda with Mexico and other countries did not think of the terrible impact it would be on our ability to keep our factories. So called free trade has not helped us in my opinion.
before President Bush, i called my self a proud Republican. Today i call my self an independent. I vote only issues. the last group in Washington spent far to much money for my taste. i must live within my means. Members in the political arena just voted them selves a big pay raise. they have their own retirement system that is fantastic. they make a ton of money. i wish they would drive every one of them to Marion and view first hand the destruction of America which they have caused with all their Government controls, rules and regulations placed on our factory owners. Wake up people and look what is happening! both parties are tearing us apart from the inside! dont vote Republican, or Democrate, or any party. Look at the issues, not the party the person is in. what will they do for ME. How will they restore America to her once greatness? Look in your heart, do your research, vote for FREE AMERICA. NO GOVERNMENT ANYTHING, PERIOD. STIMULAS PLANS ONLY GO TO THE PEOPLE IN POWER, A NEW SLUSH FUND. WHY NOT GIVE IT ALL TO AMERICAN CITIZENS, THAT WOULD STIMULATE THE ECONOMY BETTER THAN ANY THING ELSE. GOV. RUN HEALTH CAR? OMG WE ALREADY HAVE IT, VA, MEDICAID, MEDICARE, FREE EMERGENCY ROOM CARE FOR ANY ONE WITH A SNIFFLE TO A HEART ATTACK.
Sara Palin, i dont care if u are Democrat or Republican, i will vote for u because u are true to what is good for your country. that is the only reason. i like your practical ideas. u have solutions to questions people ask and u have not played politics and danced around the question stating a thousand words and not saying anything.
i am the new voter, not demo, not repub I am jsut ME, alone, looking for the right people to creat wealth in our country. people who wont throw away our factories and wont give away our personal freedoms. Obama, u are a socialist, all u have done is put us in debt and cost us lost jobs. Your glib lieing tongue cant cover up the wrong u are doing for us. people voted for u because they believed in change from a Republican party that had forsaken their platform. now u are there and i for one am sorry for it. u and people like u ARE the problem.
Study the platforms and read the bills people. then vote for the person who will build America back up and produce wealth for us again.
Thanks Sara, i believe in u. i hope u run for president, i am NOT afraid to vote for u like i have been to vote for any one in the past. I put u beside my admiration for Ronald Reagon

ah denying climate change for the sake of your current lifestyle...how selfish...this link leads to the Royal Society's guide to climate change http://royalsociety.org/Climate-change-controversies-a-simple-guide/ . This body is probably the... most respected scientific instititue on earth. They are not driven by wealth or power...only knowladge. To deny climate change is being caused by mankind is not only to argue against the scientific majority but also to condemm the children of this planet to untold suffering. The Govenor Schwarzenegger is doing what is right. You cannot get rid of an economic system based on explotation of resources without some cost...change is expensive but needed. When we in Britain pionneered industrialisation it cost us in lives and wealth but enabled us to become the most powerful nation on Earth until the First World War. If the USA manages to master a green economy before any other it will become more powerful than you can imagine. Instead you doom yourselves to trying to alter you economy when you have no fossil fuels to run it on. You will falter and be left poor whilst we in Europe, California and the Japanese, with our increasing investments in green tech, will be the big winners.See More

He has been a disappointment and failure as governor of California. We are in worse shape than when he became governor and said he'd sweep out the nonsense. He's only added to it.

You certainly CAN blame man as being the main contributor to the increase of global temperature because the steady temperature incline starts at the industrial revolution and has since marched steeply upward in connection to our advancemen...ts in technology. We have no one to blame but ourselves for the massive increase of Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. To deny our responsibility is dangerous and ignorant. I know you want to be a rogue among politicians. Be a rebel now and step away from what is expected of you under the label of being a Conservative and do a little research. Be the educated voice of your party and step up. Look at the facts. This planet is warming up and it will be future generations that will suffer for it. See More

Maybe because global warming is just one of many pressing environmental concerns that needs to be addressed. Even if humans are not contributing at all to global warming (which from a scientific standpoint just doesn't make sense, if we ar...e putting more carbon into the atmosphere than trees, rocks, and other things can sequestrate, this will naturally increase CO2 levels and the temperature) what about the unarguable fact that we are poisoning our own lakes and rivers to the extent that we have to monitor our mercury intake. I agree with and respect some of your beliefs, but as an avid outdoorsman I would never vote for you solely based on your lack of concern for the environment. As a fellow outdoor enthusiast, how can you not want to preserve the quality of our air and water?See More

If the greener than thou's want to see the green energy explode on the scene, why don't we give the industry a 15 year tax moratorium on the industry. Hmmm I wonder what that would do to unleash the power of the entrepreneur. While were at ...it lets give the oil company's a tax break for producing oil in our country. imagine the savings on that. It's the equivalent of a tax break for all Americans. Cheap and abundant energy saves everyone money and incentives industry to open up shop here. Funny how common sense ideas still work in a land founded on common sense ideals. But don't tell the dem's let them shoot themselves in the foot. Oh I forgot they don't own guns. Well maybe they can cling to there hybrids, and whatever god they want to worship today. Anyway Nov. 2010 will put the young Reagan Republicans back in the spotlight. I was 20 years old when I voted absentee ballot from Naples Italy as young a Marine, and was very proud to cast that ballot. Especially after two years of carter. God Bless you, and go get em.
