Nike Golf Schools and Junior Camps: Summer Tip Series #4

Summer Tip Series #4
A solid pre-shot routine is essential for playing great golf. A great example is Tiger's performance at the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines (where coincidentally we are hosting overnight, day and parent/child schools). Despite having some pretty serious ailments, he was able to utilize his mental toughness and pre-shot routine to get the job done!

Please use the following guidelines to help you solidify your own personalized pre-shot routine:

Determine what kind of shot you are going to play by taking in all the information first. Consider the kind of lie you have, the wind, obstacles or hazards, and your distance from the target.

Next, make your club selection.

Visualize your shot every time before you hit the ball. Be creative, use your imagination! (Jack Nicklaus calls is going to the movies).

Put the club behind the ball and aim the clubface before you set your feet.

Be aware of the target and swing away. Do not think about your swing when you are hitting a shot on the course, think about the target.

Having a good routine take practice, but if you go through these steps you will routinely hit better shots.
