An Amber Alert is in effect since Monday afternoon for a missing 2-year-old girl who police said was taken by her father in Sanford after a violent assault on the girl's mother. Police are seeking Gary Traynham, 38, and his daughter, Hailey, who was taken from her mother's apartment in Sanford at about 11:15 a.m. A warrant has been issued for Gary Traynham's arrest on a charge of Gross Sexual Assault stemming from Monday's alleged attack.

Police said Gary Traynham is driving a green 1998 Dodge 1500 pickup truck with Maine license plates 8629 NB and Patriot's and Red Sox stickers on the split rear window. He is describes as 5 feet 11 inches tall and 230 pounds, with balding brown hair, hazel eyes and a dark goatee. Traynham may be in possession of a knife.

Hailey Traynham has shoulder-length blond hair, blue eyes and weighs between 35 and 50 pounds.
