Desire and Gingerbread Update

June 14, 2011 at 7:29am

Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.

Update: 16.06.11

To resolve Desire's memory issue and enable the upgrade to Gingerbread, we will cut select apps from the release. Look for status updates starting next week. We apologize for any confusion.

Update: 24.06.11

Update: 01.08.11

Android 2.3 Update for HTC Desire

Hey guys, we're happy to announce that Gingerbread for Desire is here! Please visit our Developer website to access the download. http://developer.htc.com

Please note that the following regional variants are not compatible with this upgrade: Germany (Telekom Deutschland), North America, South Korea and Japan.

As we've mentioned, this upgrade will remove some important functionality and experiences in your HTC Desire. For that reason, we only recommend upgrading if you're an expert user or developer. Please make sure to read the full disclaimer about the changes if you do decide to upgrade. Also, flashing this ROM will erase your previous customizations, including any messages, emails, contacts, and other personal information so make sure you backup your data.

Thanks for your interest and support!
