Charlotte, NC---July 9, 2009-- Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory appeared on the nationally televised Fox Business Network on Tuesday to urge the United States congress not to pass a second stimulus bill.
McCrory’s comments came after concern that the original stimulus funds were not being allocated properly. “Now we are just spending the money on a lot of short term political projects which have very little employment impact and very little economy impact. The next generation will be paying for this for many, many years to come.”

McCrory noted that the stimulus is being used for short term projects rather than long term projects that would help future generations such as building highways and fixing bridges.“We should have spent this money on long term capital projects which would help our energy problem, which would help our transportation problem, and which would help water problems that every city is having.”

When asked if he would support a second stimulus, McCrory rejected the idea of more government spending. “I would not recommend a stimulus two, I’d rather them solve their debt problem, because I know in the long term that debt problem will be transferred to local and state government.”

How about the government give homeowners the billions in stimulus so we can pay our homes off and THAT money to put into the ecomomy

I agree they need to stop and take a hard look at how the first stimulus has been wasted and why it's not working before they throw more money we don't have at something that is apparently failing. Money doesn't solve all problems, we need intelligent decisions to be made.

Speaking of future generations . . . I am worried to death about my five and two year old's future with things going as they are. Literally makes me sick to my stomach with worry.

For me, I just want whatever it takes to get me back to work. I have a degree and have worked with Fortune 500 companies and after 2 yrs, cant' get a job. I support you 100%, but if another stimulus bill is what it takes, I am for it. I have lived in Charlotte for 41+ yrs and have never seen anything like this. I am on the verge of loosing everything I have!!!

I'm sorry - having gone through a year of job turmoil 10 years ago, I know how desperate we can become; however, what got us ini trouble to begin with was the attitude "I don't care what it takes, just give me what I want". WE can't forget that there is a limit to what government can and should do.

Doesn't anyone realize that the government isn't a source of magic money? It comes from you first or it comes from you last, or it comes from your employer who will decide whether they can afford to keep you employed.

More stimulus, money to pay your mortgage, money to pay your bills... it will end somewhere. And after the money is gone, it's ... See Moregone and so are ALL the options. Things can get a lot worse. Keep voting the country into bankruptcy and you will find out just HOW bad.

As long as there are politicians who will promise more, there are people that will vote for them for that reason.
