Rock the Vote: Driving the Vote: Part 2
Driving the Vote: Part 2
YES and NO: All heat and no light
Rock the Vote criticises both the Yes and No camps for the poor quality of information they have provided the public with to date. Rock the Vote challenges both sides to stop scare mongering and use the days left until June 12th to have some meaningful debate.
Speaking from Limerick today Rock the Vote Director Gearoid O'Rourke said "So fat there has been a very heated debate going on between the Yes and No campaigns, but is has not been a very enlightening one. Focusing on each others campaigns and not addressing the real issues at hand will only serve to alienate the voting public"
"We are challenging the two sides to make the most of the days left until June 12th"
"Young people in particular are tired of partisan rhetoric."
Mr. O'Rourke was speaking today in Limerick as part of the Rock the Vote national road show "Driving the Vote".
Today the campaign will visit Ennis, Limerick and Tralee where they will be joined by "Like Kings" and local youth groups.
The road show is hoping to raise awareness about the Lisbon Treaty Referendum among young people.
Rock the Vote are providing impartial information about Lisbon and are encouraging young people to take fifteen minutes between now and June 12th to get informed.
"The young people we are targeting are what we are call the "Euro generation".
They have grown up with the EU as a constant present in the Irish political sphere. It is very important that these people have their say on Europe."
said Rock the Vote Director Gearoid O'Rourke
Like many youth campaigns Rock the Vote has hit the road with some guitars and a hope that we can make a change.
Yesterday with help of local bands Whitewater and The Sunseekers "Driving the Vote" stopped traffic in Castlebar,
braved the elements on a busy Shop Street and gave Ballina an early-morning wake-up call.
