Premiere of Interpretive Film

Almost two years ago, a camera crew came to Fort Scott to begin production on a much needed new interpretive film for our National Historic Site.

The film, with appearances by many local residents, is finally finished, and will be premiered this Thursday, October 1 at the Liberty Theatre.

Friends of Fort Scott National Historic Site, a newly organized support group for the Fort, is using this occasion as a fundraiser, offering the premiere of the new film, live music and dinner for $20 per person.

Betty Boyko, Superintendant of the Fort is grateful to have the assistance of this new group and says “I am so pleased, but not surprised, by the interest this community has shown in support of the National Historic Site. When I arrived in Fort Scott almost three years ago, I quickly experienced the pride and appreciation the citizens have for this site. Like all National Park Service sites, this resource belongs to the citizens and I welcome and look forward to their involvement.”

Coordination of this event is being spear-headed by Reed Hartford, a long-time volunteer at the National Historic Site, who has this to say about the event "We are excited about the opportunity to premiere the new Fort Scott NHS interpretive film to the local audience. The new film improves the National Historic Site’s ability to communicate to visitors the significant role our community and the 'Old Fort' has played in the western expansion of the United States."

Main Street will be closed in front of the Liberty Theatre on Thursday night to accommodate the canon, a wagon and re-enactors outside the theatre. The doors open at 5:00 pm with dinner starting at 5:30. Tickets are available now at the Visitor Center and at the door Thursday night.
