Doug Heckman: AJC Article Week 10
AJC Article Week 10
My name is Doug Heckman, and I need your vote.
Two Sundays ago, I wrote about being the underdog and how that serves me well in this race. I want to serve you and will work doubly hard to earn your respect. This week I want to address partisanship. Some of the reasons I got into this race have to do with a dysfunctional Congress due to a lack of leadership and too much partisanship.
I believe the American people want Representatives that seek to solve our National problems. When Party loyalty and partisanship are more important than a solution, voters have a right to ask if they are being represented adequately. John Linder has been rated by the non-partisan National Review as THE most conservative Congressman based on his 2007 voting record. Recently, he voted against the Democrats and many of the Republicans on numerous issues. The new GI Bill is one that is glaringly obvious. The final vote was 256-156 in the House and 75-22 in the Senate.
One of the problems of being an extreme partisan is that, if you are in the minority, you are marginalized. I would fight to be as non-partisan as possible and to be a unifier for common sense laws. The hope for a better political outcome in Washington lies in Congressmen that work together to come to compromise solutions before the problems become unsolvable. The people of the 7th District deserve a Representative that crafts effective solutions through leadership and compromise. I want to be that Representative. Your Representative.
I hope you will visit my website (www.DougHeckman.com), learn more about me, and contact me with your ideas and concerns (Doug@DougHeckman.com).
