The Democrats are in trouble, but why?

Interesting.  One of the biggest left-leaning websites, The Huffington Post, is acknowledging exactly what you and I already know:  that Dems are in trouble.

What is so disappointing, however, is that they don’t understand why.  They still think that a majority of Americans want nationalized health care, cap-and-trade, and tax increases.  This is the same attitude that we saw Rep. Spratt display at the Health Care forums in September:  complete disregard for what people really think.

And not surprisingly, instead of changing their policies, the Dems are focusing on something else in order to get back in voter’s good graces:  trying to slam the opposition.  For example, from the column:

The voters need to be thinking a whole lot about the other guy, not about you,” this consultant says. Party operatives agree that an election conducted on disputes over the deficit, health care legislation, the stimulus, the bank bailout, and/or climate change will work to the disadvantage of Democrats.

So much for a good, clean discussion of issues.  Indeed, it looks like if Rep. Spratt goes along with the rest of his party, as he has 98.7% of the time in the last 3 years, issues are the last thing you can expect to hear about from him in this election.

That’s too bad, as politics should be about issues.  But perhaps its’s not surprising given what Washington and Rep. Spratt have become.
