Attn: Artists & Managers - Just a little rant
I receive a lot of emails through the website, so it can take a little while to respond sometimes, but I do my best. I think most people understand this. I will admit, though, that a follow up email sometimes helps to jar my memory or at least makes me respond a little faster.
I had an email come the other day from a representative of an artist who had changed their name, saying that they would like to update their information that they have on the site. Fair enough. Maybe I should have responded right away, but figured I would wait until I have the information updated so I can tell them it's been changed.
Tonight I was going through the junk folder and found this second email (names are blanked out):
"Good afternoon I represent the works of ______ formerly known as _______, the information you are portraying is outdated and we must urge be removed immediately. If you still have interest in working with and portraying ________ we will be more that happy to send you the updated information and photos. Failure to respond to this email will lead to actions taken against the faulty information being portayed on your website.
Cheers

Starts out no problem. I hadn't responded yet, so a quick follow up to remind me. Then I read the last sentence, which actually pisses me off.
I run the website as a way to help promote hip hop music and the artists in and around Toronto. I do this mostly as a hobby because I love the music and have fun while doing it.
I don't take kindly to threats, especially from someone who I have helped out by giving some extra exposure in the past. Whether it was intended as as a threat or not, I can't say, maybe it was just a poor choice of words. But I took it as a threat.
So, as a note to all artists who may contact me in the future, please show a little patience when it comes to getting a response after sending an email. I know I don't have the largest or most well-known website, and having your music taken off of it probably won't be the end of your career in music, but it never helps to burn a bridge, however small.
