Writing The Book Review

Tell us about the influence of a book on your life. Your entry may be in the form of an essay or a book review. The book could be from your childhood, one you just finished reading, a novel you read for pleasure, or an assigned reading for a class. The book could have been written at any time, on any subject. Your entry must be 1500-1700 words, 12-point font, and double-spaced.  


Eligibility and Awards

The contest is open to all currently enrolled Hunter College students and will be judged in two categories, undergraduate and graduate, by a panel composed of Hunter College faculty. A total of four gift cards will be awarded:


Undergraduate Students

  • 1st Prize $200 Gift Card
  • 2nd Prize $150 Gift Card

Graduate Students

  • 1st Prize $200 Gift Card
  • 2nd Prize $150 Gift Card

How To Enter

Include a cover page with the book review displaying your name, address, and telephone number. Indicate your enrollment status (Undergraduate or Graduate). To preserve the anonymity of the judging process, do not type your name on the text of the actual review.


To enter the competition email your book review as an attachment to, with "Book Review Contest Entry" in the subject line, or place your entry in a sealed envelope in the box at the Circulation Desks of any of the Hunter College Libraries.


All entries must be submitted by April 2, 2012. Submitted entries will not be returned. Only one entry per student. Winners will be announced at the Hunter Library Day reception on April 24, 2012.
