Team Nova Scotia Shares Experience
The following letter was printed in the Saturday, July 24, 2010 Edition of The London Free PRess
While there are not words to fully describe events that change people's lives, the 2010 Special Olympics Canada National Summer Games in London, Ontario certainly did change lives ... permanently and for the better. There were tears of sadness as Team Nova Scotia departed London early Sunday, a true and unquestionable sign of the impact your city and more specifically the volunteers have had on our athletes and coaches.
These Games were exceptional in all respects and this is quickly and directly traced to the leadership. With absolutely no disrespect to others, the number of high ranking, dedicated police officers simply know how to deliver. Chief Faulkner, Rick Gillespie. Bill Merrylees and the list continues, delivered an experience for our team, and all teams, that will be difficult to replicate. These leaders set the tone and the volunteers and citizens of London certainly followed, with a spirit of welcome and kindness that will always be remembered and appreciated.
When hard work is put into something it can be great; when your heart is put into it ... it can be "magical and special!"
The Games have changed the lives of many of our athletes and coaches, we believe they have also changed many of the volunteers who made them possible.
With great respect and thanks from your friends on the east coast, as your entire city embraced the mantra of the London Police Service "Deeds Not Words".
