President Grants Major Disaster Declaration for Pike County
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 23, 2010) – Governor Steve Beshear was notified today that President Barack Obama has approved Gov. Beshear’s request for a major disaster declaration for Pike County. Severe storms and flooding hit on Saturday, July 17, causing two fatalities and severe damage across the county. Gov. Beshear saw the damage firsthand when he visited Pike County on Monday, July 19.
“Many Kentucky families were hit hard by the devastation caused by this storm,” said Gov. Beshear. “I am grateful for the granting of this critical request, and appreciate the swiftness of the White House’s response."
On Wednesday, July 21, Gov. Beshear requested a presidential disaster declaration for public assistance and individual assistance, including disaster housing, Individual and Household Program, disaster unemployment assistance and small business administration disaster loans. This request has been granted in full.
Damage assessments continue in other counties that were hard hit by storms during the past week.
