Residents of Pine Dock, Manitoba will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding for a water treatment plant, announced today by James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake and Tom Nevakshonoff, MLA, Interlake. This project is another example of the commitment of both governments to strengthening the Manitoba economy by reducing red tape, creating jobs for Manitobans, and getting shovels in the ground.

This project will provide a new water treatment plant for the residents of Pine Dock and area, and will create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.

The governments of Canada and Manitoba will each invest up to $345,635 in the project.

“The Government of Canada is committed to helping communities overcome their infrastructure challenges. Reliable water is essential for sustaining the quality of life in our communities,” said James Bezan, MP. “Through our investment in this project, our Government is working together with other levels of government to create jobs and stimulate the economy. Pine Dock residents can now be assured of a safe and reliable source of drinking water.”

“Having modern, quality infrastructure is critically important to rural communities and citizens as they strive to compete in a global marketplace,” said Tom Nevakshonoff, MLA for Interlake. “It is good to see that all three levels of government are working together in this regard.”

This project is one of 52 infrastructure projects under the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component across the province thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment. The governments of Canada and Manitoba have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Manitoba communities in the 2010 construction seasons.
