Haiti Day 1 by Nicole Wolf (Photographer)
Today my heart is full. I could only have hoped that the same thing I felt when I left would return, and the minute I landed in Haiti, I was overwhelmed with emotion. The first face that I saw was Ismel, waiting with the hugest hug, and then one after the other, our friends greeted us with open arms. At the point, the intense heat, sweat, headache left me completely and I felt nothing except for pure joy.
As we rolled our 37 bags down the bumpy sidewalk to our awaiting transportation, we were excited to see that the school bus was in full working order. We had heard that she had died but apparently was miraculously resurrected. The school bus is hard to explain, dirty, broken windows, leaky roof, breaks down about three times during a trip, but there is something comforting about it and I think we all would agree, if a limo had picked us up, we would have preferred the bus!
Weddz, the beautiful boy I am sponsoring was waiting on the school bus as I walked on. This boy melts my heart and I was so happy to see him. His brother Pepe is a dear friend and I am hoping that I will be documenting their family later this week in Port Au Prince.
Today we are headed out to our first mobile clinic in Carrefour. I woke up at 5am, not being able to sleep any longer, one from heat but mostly from the excitement of being out on the field again. Our team is a large one this trip, 17 in all, with a few returners, myself, Eric, Jordan, Ali, Tannis, Cecily and then our new crew, Matthew, Daniel, Reese, Johnathan, Linda, Michelle, Chelsey, Hayley, Fallon, Franny and Jay.
So here we go once again and I'm beyond excited…
