Koran Burning Is Insensitive, Unnecessary; Pastor Jones, Please Stand Down (Updated)

by Sarah Palin on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 2:13pm ·

Update: Book burning is bad. But the Muslim cleric who is running for parliament in Afghanistan is calling for the murder of American children in response to scorched Korans, which is worse. Where is the media's focus?

Book burning is antithetical to American ideals. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero.

I would hope that Pastor Terry Jones and his supporters will consider the ramifications of their planned book-burning event. It will feed the fire of caustic rhetoric and appear as nothing more than mean-spirited religious intolerance. Don’t feed that fire. If your ultimate point is to prove that the Christian teachings of mercy, justice, freedom, and equality provide the foundation on which our country stands, then your tactic to prove this point is totally counter-productive.

Our nation was founded in part by those fleeing religious persecution. Freedom of religion is integral to our charters of liberty. We don’t need to agree with each other on theological matters, but tolerating each other without unnecessarily provoking strife is how we ensure a civil society. In this as in all things, we should remember the Golden Rule. Isn’t that what the Ground Zero mosque debate has been about?

Galen Muhammad:Your thoughts are confusing. I have read parts of the Koran and it is a violent book. You are correct, it does speak about Jesus BUT it also states to kill all infidels foreign or domestic. If islam is so peaceful then why... does your political theology go after Jews and Christians- Yes sir, I islam is not a religion. Have you read the koran in arabic or a translated version. Mohammad asked the Jews if he could use scripture from the Holy Bible and once they found out that he was a pedifile, they said no. My question to you is this: How can the people of the middle east read and support a man who was a pedifile and a book that is violent? I will be more than happy to debate you on this issue.See More

Galen, You are fighting a battle with people who regurgitate what they hear Fox... At some point or another, one of the many "reporters" on Fox have expressed all these arguments that people are making. A couple of days ago, a study found t...hat agnostics and atheist knew more about religion(s) than people who have a faith... are you surprised?? I constantly have to keep reminding myself of a couple of things:

      1. No sense is common; and
      2. Ignorance is curable, stupidity is forever!

This helps me understand why some will get it, if they haven't, and why others will never get... no matter how hard you try! If people had half... yes half!, of the knowledge about their religion, as you do on Islam, or you have on other religions, the world would be a much better place!

Reading many posts here I find most here to be too angry to think clearly. I will gladly admit I am not educated enough to make a judgment on many subjects. Almost everyone one here is using their little bits of information to make broad st...atements. Accusing others of not respecting their religions and views yet insulting the other person's views. Calling priests pedophiles, "teatards", ignorant, and so on.

      Here is my view.

Yes, Bush is guilty of putting our country into debt. Obama then must be even more guilty because he increased the debt more than Bush.

We are at war with a group that is a part of Islam. Have any also considered that this may be a problem with the culture of the region instead of the religion itself. Since Islam is the major religion there, it would make sense Islam would be used by the unscrupulous leaders as a method to control their followers? You can see this sort of perversion of religion as a method of control on a smaller scale in Christianity too.

The Tea Party, not teatards, is a organic movement of people of like mind. Most believe in smaller government, less taxes, individual rights, and the constitution. Yes there are others in that group that may have other views about religion and various social rights issues. That is not what binds the group. No matter what the media likes to portray.

The mosque or Islamic community center, 2 1/2 blocks for ground zero (who decides how big is ground zero), is painful to many and most do not want it there. This is not against the freedom of religion. It is against common sense and some plain old human decency. Religion is not about causing others pain.

Anyways, that is my virtual voice to the subject. You may now call me names to make yourself feel better.

What makes Sarah so endearing to some is that sense of genuine composure and honesty that radiates from such beautiful woman. The composure she suggests in this presentation of hers is highly commendable knowingly the modus operandi of thos...e who are the subject of this book burning frenzy. Fanaticism has nothing to do with religion.. it has to do with lack of universal vision and global reconciliation and more so with low level of cerebral processing. "We don’t need to agree with each other on theological matters, but tolerating each other without unnecessarily provoking strife is how we ensure a civil society." sums it up very well. Good to read you , Sarah!
OK I also must say it was nice seeing you supporting your daughter on "Dance With The Stars". You're quite a special Mom!!

The liberal Media is strictly Hear say!! No one cares what the liberal press or media has to say anymore. There is change going on! People are listening to there own common sense and wanting change that represents what our Four Fathers sta...rted. The Liberal Media no longer has power over the people. So in conclusion, the liberal media is going to start learning how to be fair and balanced. Then Maybe the Media will get back some of it's stamina.See More

The 9/11 attacks were not caused by Christians,Jews,Hindus,Buddists or Sikhs. They were caused by Muslims. It is because of what Muslims did that day that there is so much over the top airport security, and that Pastor Jones has talked abou...t burning the Koran. Now if Islamic countries would take tough action against the various terror groups that operate from those countries, then people wouldn't be so suspicious of Islam, and the Koran wouldn't need to be burned.See More

    • Lucy Courtney ‎^^ agreed. However, we are better than that all together. It's unnecessary and horrible, as is the mosque at ground zero.

    • Sandy Pistolesi The only thing this incident has done is to "feed" the insurgents' need for continued publicity. Controversy broadcasts around the world "sells." The American broadcast media are the reason extremists keep attacking American moral will and integrity. If something controversial happens in the States ... there is a long life to the infamy involving Americans. In other countries, it quickly fades out.

This should be carried out in every country.

Australia says NO - Second Time shehas done this!
      AMAZING..you must read it!

      ... She's done it again.
She sure isn't backing down on her hard line stance and one has to appreciate her belief in the rights of hernative countrymen.
A breath of fresh air to see someone lead. I wish some leaders would step up in Canada and USA.

Australian Prime Minister does it again!
This woman should be appointed Queen of the World...truer words have never been spoken.

It took a lot of courage for this woman to speak what she had to say for the world to hear. The retribution could be phenomenal, but at least she was willing to take a stand on her and Australia 's beliefs.
The whole world needs a leader like this!

      >
Prime Minister Julia Gillard - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Gillard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT...Take It Or Leave It.
'I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.
'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves in Canada and USA, WE will find the courage to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
If you agree please SEND THIS ON and ON, to as many people as you know.
