James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake, is pleased to welcome the recent appointment of David Tomasson as Chair of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation.

“We are very fortunate to have a person of Mr. Tomasson’s calibre at the helm of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation” said MP Bezan. “His hands on experience as a long time commercial fisher, coupled with his background in Natural Resources and management at the deputy minister level, will serve the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation well as it continues to process and market freshwater fish for the commercial fishers in Western Canada.”

Mr. Tomasson, a commercial fisher from Hecla Island, was born, raised and educated in Manitoba. He has a Masters Degree in Natural Resources Management from the University of Manitoba, and enjoyed a distinguished career with the government of Manitoba, starting as an economic development analyst in the Department of Natural Resources, and later serving as a Deputy Minister in Northern Affairs and Aboriginal Development, Energy and Mines, Rural Development and Natural Resources. He will assume the duties of Chair of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation in October of 2010.

The Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation is a federal crown corporation mandated to buy, process and market all freshwater fish caught for commercial sale in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories and part of Northwestern Ontario.
