NOTES ON SOCIAL INSURANCE AND THE IMPACT ON OUR COUNTRY
You wrote: just a little suggestion about being an entrepreneur….
Please filter what you say….. Political statements, religion and other in your face remarks really can turn people off. I am just trying to help. Ignorant people do not filter. Professionals know better. I am sure you have heard this a million times but now that you have your own business you need to take the advice. The statements you made back to me yesterday about insurance companies and Hillary Clinton and other things were really offensive and I really was offended by them. Be careful, Hun…..I really want you to succeed. Please know that I love you but when you act like that, professionally and personally, it is really a turn off. In the long run (and short) people will be turned off by this and avoid you. Be careful…….I really want you to practice this at Christmas when you come up. You can be so cute, pleasant and fun but when your twin brother takes over you become, overbearing, opinioned and a total turn off to most people. I love YOU, not your twin.
Well here is my thoughts and response and thanks for your entrepreneurial advice, it was received with all the Love that I know it was sent. You are right in that I do need to be careful what I say on Facebook / MySpace / LInked In / Plaxo and anyother Social Networking site that can be tied or used against me by persons in the future. Also I am aware of the need to filter perosnal correspondence. I am curious as to why you were offended though? I mentioned that I hated Insurance Companies and you engaged me in a dialogue as to why. That is when I made comments on Hllary and Abortion. I know that you want me to be a chameleon that can be profitable no matter who I am talking to, especially for the sake of your daughter and grandchildren. I love you very much, thank you for caring.
However, I don't apologize for my comments nor will I censor them. When we as a people are afraid to make statements or engage in political, religious, and other important issues then we fail one another as Citizens of this great nation. The comments that I made were in response to what I have experienced first hand as someone who has dedicated my livelihood to the health care and financial system. If you would like I could share some of the Industry Insider knowledge but I fear it will just make you ill. So I will sum up why I feel the way I do
I am putting my Religious hat aside and speaking just as an avid History Buff and economist with a specialty in Health care and Social Insurance, Since that is the Industry in which I practice my trade and am Licensed in Multiple States.
Here is a little Reference history on why I made those comments: starting 100years ago The University of Wisconsin had been studying and leading the nation in study and application of Social Insurance. In 1908 It Employed a Professor, A man by the name of John R. Commons who is credited for much of the published thought and teachings on Social Insurance, whose students include most of the people that created our Social Security System in 1935. Those students include Edwin E. Witte A.K.A. " The Father of Social Security" and many more. Some other names to look up are Paul Raushenbus: Author of the "Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance Law" and Felix Frankfurter: one of the founders of the ACLU and Supreme Court Justice and very Liberal. Other Persons of Interest are Arthur J. Altmeyer is one of the most important figures in the history of Social Security. President Franklin Roosevelt called him "Mr. Social Security." Other names of importance are Tom Corraran & Ben Cohen & Brandeis & Roosevelt who were responsible for creating the "Laboratories for Democracy". Barbara Armstrong, Thomas Eliot, Mayor LaGuardia and many othrs could be listed, but as you look at the biographies of those listed, you will see that many people involved in the Creation of our Social Insurnace System including "The New Deal" Social Security Act in 1935 and Medicare Part A & B 1965 rolled out in 1967.
These people had very strong ideas that often clashed with one another and ranged widley from very conservative to Federalist thinking, to even very Socialist. One point of note is that President Roosevelt felt strongly that the States should have more control over regionalized Social Insurnace for feat that someone like Huey Long would become president and he feared that kind of Radical Redistribution of Wealth and his Share the Wealth Agenda. Initiallly the Social Unemployment Insurance and the OAI - Old Age Insurance was created to take care of "wage earners" and "the deserving poor". Many of the Initial stages purposefully sought to exclude women and blacks, even though Women especially made up over 75% of the Teachers, Religeous Workers, Healthcare Givers, & Social Workers and a large part of the Agricultural Work. And Blacks were still doing most of the agricultural work especially in the south.
In 1927 Norman Thomas, a socialist and member of the American Civil Liberties Union, boldly told the world: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism ( humanitarianism) , they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened."
WOW what a statement, Why is that important? I will tell you in a moment but let me make this:
Personal Comment Here:
I personally believe that there are pluses and minuses to both sides of Social Insurance and have tried to be open minded to both sides of the argument, especially on health care, But not so open minded that my brains fall out. Our country has come a long way in its thinking and respect for persons no matter what color of skin or gender they are, but they still have a long way to go. ( and I don't mean more gay rights and transgendered special rights )... Those kinds of "Special rights" and privileges that are currently sought by a Loud and Proud Few are being forced on the Majority and at their expense, They are not looking for "EQUAL RIGHTS" they work vigilantly to surpress any movement or agenda that disagrees with them.
Regarding our recent historical election, I personally would have preferred Alan Keyes get the Republican Nomination over John McCain and have him as our first black president if we want to focus on the Historical Precident and the Chapter of healing in our nation as it relates to race, but as far as policy goes, Although I respect and admire Mr. Obama's "journey to the whitehouse" and his intellect is captivating, I am very worried about his ideals, his policies, and his approach to solving our nations biggest problems. Not because he is Black, but because he is a Socialist Liberal who is a staunch supporter of even the most brutal Abortion. My neices and nephews are black and I would love to see them in the highest office in our nation. I am proud to be part of a nation that has taken a great step to look past ethnicity, color, or background and allow people to be judged on the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Moreover , I will begin to explain below why I think Socialism and Abortion make a bad cocktail for economy.
Back to The Topic " How Socialism & Abortion have played the largest role in the destruction of Our nations Economy, healthcare, and Security:
by 1965 many books, articles, discussions, data, actuarial data, had been collected and our Government and the Time had come to make one of the broadest sweeps of implementing the Largest Social Insurance Progam in American History ... MEDICARE. ( see attached document and read in entirety) Yet in the House Ways & Means Meetings and the meetings with the Finance Committee.. after all their factoring and arguing... they finally came to agreement. The average Life Expectancy in 1965 was 67 years old and in 1967 when Medicare was rollled out Beneficiaries would access benefits at age 65 and the Government on average would only pay for 2 years before they passed away. NOW our Average Life Expectancy is 87 F 84 Man and They never thought that just a few short years, all their actualrial data that designed the system would be turned on its head. You see by the late 60's and early 70's the largest part of the population that had driven every market since the end of world war 2 were now influencing heavily Social Policy.. that is right, the BABY BOOMERS... numbering 78 million, they were now in their 20's and they wanted (among other things ) sex without consequences, make love not war, free love and all that jazz. In 1973 when Roe. V. Wade was passed, Our nation began killing babies by the truckload, Since that time 1 out of every 2 people under the age of 35 is not here due to ABORTION. that means that HALF of the TAX paying base that was factored to be here, working at jobs, paying taxes, having children, paying into the Social Insurance System ... ARE NOT EVEN HERE. In fact our government created Medicare Part B overnight ( see pg 17 attached Refelections on Medicare ) and the actuarial aspect of that went unchecked for over 25 years... WOW.
The Creation of Medicare Part B modeled the AETNA Federal Employee Outpatient payment schedule and was not actuarily checked at all... It was brought up because An Individual who was wanting to run for office soon wanted the Physician Vote and the effort to ensure that physicians working with the new Federal Program were able to make a killing off of the new Medicare "outpatient" system. The Hosptial Part of Medicare ( Part A ) works differently. The bottom line is that Medicare Originally was a very sweet deal for Providers and Beneficiarys. In Fact at this time the Private Insurance Companies got in on the deal by offering Supplemental Benefit Policies to Seniors to cover the "Gaps" in the system, the problem is that Many Private insurance Companies benefits ranged widely and there were very confusing ways to copare benefits when shopping for these policies because there were hundreds if not thousands of options ( much like our Individual and Group Insurance system is now ). Another Consequence is that this affected the Group Health Insurance market and they way healthCare is paid for in this nation. Now Docotors and Hospitals have the "Golden Handcuffs" of Medicare on and the Private Insurance Companies Siezed this opportunity. Thus layers of Administrative Burocracy have been formed and the way services are recieved and paid for are now regulated by Insurance Companies and not HealthCare Providers and Physicians. Moreover, the Pharmaceutical Industry has capitalized on the Shielding of the Costs for Healthcare because most people have been insulated to this rising costs becuase Insurance Companies and Employers have absorbed this... UNTIL NOW... Not only are EMPLOYER GROUPS turning into Insurance Administrators, but they have to pay a portion of every healthcare premium goes directly to subsidize the Medicare system through the Insurance Companies. This messed up system has distracted companies from their core businesses and people are focused more on their "Benefits" changing or going away than on doing their job, perfecting their trade, expanding their trade, continuing to educate themselves to advance beyond current positions. Moreover, employees (especially the Baby Boomers) have become unhealthy in their habits because they are totally irresponsible in thier eating, and indulging in other carnal self serving actions and habits. Thier beliefs have blinded them to the reality that there is no free lunch, and someone is going to have to pay the bill.
Moreover, the wave of Illegal Immigrants who are tapping into a system that they have not contributed to and are not paying into now is staggering. But that is a whole other issue.
HR and CFO's and CEO's are now frantically looking for creative ways to balance employee populations that range from Traditionalists, Boomers, Gen - X, & Gen - Y. All have different experiences and interpretations of History, Technology, Freedom, Citizenship, and Morality. But all of us have the same issues and problems looming before us, our country is divided, we don't communicate, we go home to our suburbs or units and live for years next to our neighbors without ever really knowing them. So we dont discuss the most important issues in our Life because they are "taboo" or "divisive". We continue on forming our own opinions, but rarely engaging in discussions about them wtih people that differ, rather we form our own divisive circles and huttle in groups of "likeminded" people. I don't have a problem being called opinionated, that just means that I have taken time, researched and given thought to important issues and have formed an opinion about them. I have problems with people who make decisions based solely on what they "feel" and what is comfortable to them, or easier for them, it doesn't require change on thier part to keep going on in ignorance and apathy. If it sounds good or feels good, it must be good.... that is a dangerous statement and thought.
Alan Greenspan said that "Social Security & Medicare face long term financing gaps that if not corrected will stop the economy in its tracks"
Since Medicare's Rollout in 1967 there were 3 key pieces of Legislation that affected Medicare
1. 1992- Medicare Supplements were Standardized to make it easier for seniors to compare plans... the only differnece with supplement carriers now is not what is covered and how it is paid, but simply PRICE... how much premium do they charge. This is based on risk pools and administrative efficiencies... Price ranges widely for seniors ranging from $75/month to $285+ for the exact same coverage.
2. 1996 - the Balanced Budged Act of 1996: ( aka BUBA) enacted by the Clinton Administration. Created Medicare Part C. there are many variations included in this, but basically it allows private insurance companies to administer medicare benefits at a significant cost savings to seniors, and to the government. BOTH McCain and Obama are looking to overhaul this system and do away with this system. ( I can say that it has its plusses and minuses, but the bottom line is that we have people designing these systems that have no real world experience in how to roll them out and make them work. There is so much Red tape and compliance that it is counterproductive and cost prohibitive now to even educate and enroll people into this system. There are as many options as Individual Insuance and vary widely by county, not state, but county.)
3. 2003 - 2006 - The Medicare Modernization Act (MOMA) was introduced and passed to help assist in the rising cost of Prescription Medications to Medicare Beneficiarys, This optional part of Medicare was passed in 2003 and rolled out in 2006 ( What a Messy Nightmare!!!) I was a part of this and this was the first time that Medicare Part C was really pushed out as well. The plan designs, rules, costs, etc... made and make it very difficult for seniors to choose and pick the right plan.. and then their is the "Donut Hole" a black hole gap in coveage that basically puts people in a real bind once they reach it since they are responsible for 100% of the costs untl they have paid THOUSANDS of dollars out of pocket does it kick in.
In 2008 the first wave of Baby Boomers have started to step into the Social Insurance System and start drawing benefits, 78 million people taking 78 billion out of the Social Security system ( that was tapped by others as well to fund other programs... but I digress ) I predicted in 2005 that in 2008 the stock market was going to crash and that as an investor, you have no control over it. I urged people to Purchase Safe Products, Fixed and Fixed Indexed Annuities, that would garantee returns but also allow participation in market gains directly tied to the indexes themselves, but protect against losses when they happen. With over 200 clients, not one has lost a penny. My own Grandmother called me last week and was glad that she listened to me and moved her money in a plan that guarantees her retirement.
Now you see my problem with Socialism and Abortion.. It has costs us a lot. It affects every area of our life, Our money, our Health care, our Jobs, our Businesses, our Lively hood. Because it has crept into our EDUCATION system... it now runs everything. Here is some very insightful commentary by Joe Larson on what has happened, I couldn't have said it better myself, so I am not going to try... I will let you read, Now I am going to put my Critical Thinker hat on including the part that doesn't ignore the Religeous Implications especially from a Christian worldview.:
Why Our Schools Teach Socialism
By Joe Larson
Marxism and Humanism are the predominant philosophies of America's education establishment, yet every day we send the public schools our most precious gift, our children, to be "educated."
Our schools are filled with sex education, political correctness, environmental extremism, global unity, diversity training (pro-gay indoctrination), and "higher-order thinking skills" boldly claiming that, in order to become a higher order thinker, one must first believe absolutely that there are no absolutes!
Our schools are filled with violence, murder, extortion, rape, unwanted pregnancy, drug use, disrespect, and foul language. Test scores have been declining for decades as the numbers of children who cannot read continue to increase.
While the pontificators wonder why this is so, many parents and citizens have figured it out. Although earth worship, paganism and the occult flourish in public schools, the Greatest Story Ever Told, based on the greatest book ever written, the Holy Bible, which tells of the greatest teacher who ever lived, Jesus Christ, is not used or even allowed. The Bible was America's first textbook, but today it is referred to as a collection of fables.
America's educational system began to decline with the introduction of socialism, given impetus by the increasing involvement of the federal government. Lenin said: "Communism is socialism in a hurry." Socialism, therefore, is Communism by gradualism rather than by revolution. The socialist "Fabian Society," forerunner of most socialist groups in America, had as its motto "Make Haste Slowly."
"Democratic socialism" became the battle cry for socializing the United States. The goal was to "permeate and penetrate," then control from within. The socialists' first target was education, and they attacked with deceitful language. There were no badges or socialist labels; followers described themselves as "liberal," "progressive," and even "moderate." Words were the weapon of choice in this new war. By changing the meanings of words, socialists concealed their true purpose.
This massive social engineering was carried out under the banners of "reform" and "social justice." These innovations are in the public interest, Americans were told. They promote true democracy, humanitarianism, and, of course are "for the children." The buzzwords of socialism were and still are "social" and "democracy" (i.e. social science, social studies and socialization of the child).
In the early 1900s, unrest in Europe brought thousands of socialists to America. Many held degrees in psychology, sociology and psychiatry (the behavioral sciences) and a number of them became university professors.
Norman Thomas, a socialist and member of the American Civil Liberties Union, boldly told the world: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened."
John Dewey, known as "the father of modern education," was an avowed socialist and the co-author of the "Humanist Manifesto." The U.S. House Committee on Un-American Activities discovered that he belonged to 15 Marxist front organizations. Dewey taught the professors who trained America's teachers. Obsessed with "the group," he said, "You can't make socialists out of individualists. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society, which is coming, where everyone is interdependent."
Author Rosalie Gordon, writing about Dewey's progressive (socialist) education in her book What's Happened To Our Schools, said: "The progressive system has reached all the way down to the lowest grades to prepare the children of America for their role as the collectivists of the future. The group - not the individual child - is the quintessence of progressivism. The child must always be made to feel part of the group. He must indulge in group thinking and group activity."
After visiting the Soviet Union, Dewey wrote six articles on the "wonders" of Soviet education. The School-To-Work program, now in our public schools in all 50 states, is modeled after the Soviet poly-technical system.
In 1936, the National Education Association stated the position from which it has never wavered: "We stand for socializing the individual." The NEA, in its Policy For American Education, opined: "The major problem of education in our times arises out of the fact that we live in a period of fundamental social change. In the new democracy [what happened to our republic?], education must share in the responsibility of giving purpose and direction to social change. The major function of the school is the social orientation of the individual . . . Education must operate according to a well-formulated social policy."
NEA specialist Paul Haubner, tells us, "The schools cannot allow parents to influence the kind of values-education their children receive in school; . that is what is wrong with those who say there is a universal system of values. Our goals are incompatible with theirs. We must change their values."
Chester M. Pierce, M.D., Professor of Education and Psychiatry at Harvard, had this to say: "Every child in America entering school at the age of five is mentally ill because he comes to school with certain allegiances to our Founding Fathers, toward our elected officials, toward his parents, toward a belief in a supernatural being, and toward the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity. It's up to you as teachers to make all these sick children well - by creating the international child of the future."
Some politicians agree. Former Nebraska state senator Peter Hoagland said: "Fundamentalist parents have no right to indoctrinate their children in their beliefs. We are preparing their children for the year 2000 and life in a global one-world society and those children will not fit in."
In the Humanist Magazine, Jan./Feb 1983, John Dunphy wrote: "The battle for mankind's future must be waged and won in the public school classroom . The classroom must and will become the arena of conflict between the old and the new . the rotting corpse of Christianity and the new faith of humanism."
Bureaucrats, politicians and educators regularly appear on television blaming either parents or lack of funds for the failure of our schools. Their prescription is always the same: more money and more government control. For well over 50 years, American voters have fallen for these fallacies. Victor Gollancz, a famous socialist publisher, explained why he believed that socialism would take over America: "Christians are not exactly bright, so it will be easy for socialism to lead them down the garden path through their ideals of brotherly love and 'social justice.'"
It's time for Christians to stand up for their families and their faith and put God in charge of this nation and its schools. Restoring America is that simple.
Joseph R. Larson is Board Chairman of the pro-family organization Restoring America (www.restoringamerica.org). He is a frequent guest on talk radio and has written articles on China, education and the Constitution for newspapers across the country.
In Conclusion, my Question to you is How do you think... do you think for yourself or do you think like you have been trained to think... YOU ARE IN THE MATRIX. Do you want the truth or do you want to "think" that you are eating steak, and don't care whether or not it is real or not, just prefer to believe the delusions that are indoctrinated into you since Elementary School.
"You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream -- the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order -- or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, 'The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.' "
-- Ronald Reagan, October 27, 1964
