Min Ko Naing: Releasing prisoners in Burma
Releasing prisoners in Burma
Most of you might have heard that the junta decided to release more than 6,000 prisoners and among them 23 political prisoners. Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, elected member of parliament and member of the NLD who have been in prison since 1991 was released from Myitkyina prison.
Though we of course welcome the release we would like to send out a reminder that there are still more than 2000 political prisoners in those numerous and infamous prisons of Burma, among them Min Ko Naing.
The military junta might release politicians with their one hand, but as long as they keep arresting activists with their other hand we can not begin to see these releases as a sign of real change in Burma.
Guess you are all aware of this, but it can't be said to many times.
