Lindsey Files for Hawaii Island Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Seat

Press Release

Bob Lindsey, OHA Trustee who represents Hawai’i Island has officially filed to run for the OHA seat he currently holds in the November General Election. Lindsey was unanimously appointed by the current OHA Board of Trustees in April 2007 to fill a vacancy left with the passing of Trustee Linda Dela Cruz.

“I was given this wonderful opportunity to be a servant leader to our people by tragic circumstance. Now I will have to earn it,” Lindsey said. Regarded by some as “The People’s Trustee,” Lindsey believes OHA should be a Puu Honua for our Hawaiian people including those who differ with OHA. “Dissent is healthy and brings balance to any discussion.” He also believes OHA needs to “Redo its Strategic Plan and upgrade it to a Comprehensive Master Plan with clear, practical and culturally based strategies to address in particular the Health, Education and Housing needs of our people.”

He emphasizes the Plan must have clearly framed objectives and goals, priorities, budgets, time frames for achieving results and performance measures. And through it all, the Hawaiian Community must be involved in the Process. “The Plan needs to be our People’s Plan.”

Lindsey graduated from Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii. He served in the State House of Representatives in the 1980’s and was Kamehameha School’s Land Assets Director-Hawai’i Island, retiring after 24 years of service in 2004. He also worked with the Family Court of the Third Circuit and the National Park Service.

Lindsey is active in community initiatives serving as VP for Internal Affairs for The Kohala Center and is a board member for Habitat for Humanity-West Hawaii and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. His wife Kathy is a Kamehameha Schools Preschool teacher. The Lindsey’s have three sons, Maluhia, Lono and Imiola. Lindsey’s campaign is Chaired by Trishann Kehaulani Watson. Harvey Kim will serve as Treasurer. Lindsey may be reached by email at boblindsey808@hawaii.rr.com and by phone at 808.936.6795.
