Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitors Bureau: 2009 Blues on the Red Series to debut this Weekend!
2009 Blues on the Red Series to debut this Weekend!
The first of the 2009 Blues on the Red series will debut this Saturday, June 27, from 5 to 10 p.m., in Town Square with two exciting acts from the Minneapolis area.
Blues on the Red headliner, The Sweet Papa Dave Band, is led by Sweet Papa Dave (AKA David Hart) who was born in St. Paul, MN, and was raised in the deep back woods of Grand Portage, MN. His family had no running water and heated and cooked with wood. As a child he grew up listening to Huddy Ledbetter, Woody Gutherie, Pete Sieger and Jim Kweskin's Jug Band on the old family phonograph. Sweet Papa Dave has been performing his music from coast to coast for more than 24 years. His last CD self titled "Sweet Papa Dave and The Private Reserve" received world wide recognition. Samples of the group’s music along with details about the other members can be found at http://www.myspace.com/the sweetpapadaveband.
The event will kick off with Ross William Perry. According to Perry’s website at www.rosswilliamperry.com, he has focused on a lifetime of playing his music and has been a rising star on the Midwest Blues scene since graduating high school in ’98. Blending his Blues, Rock and Jazz influences, Ross has created a sound that is distinctively his own.
The event, sponsored by the City of Grand Forks, Canad Inns Destination Center, the Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitors Bureau and Rydell Honda Nissan, is a three-part series this year; the next events will occur on July 25 and August 22. Canad Inns will host a beer garden and food vending area. Admission is free to all.
