Jacksonville Magazine: It's A Dog's Life
It's A Dog's Life
When you're in the publishing business, like we are, you receive all sorts of books and magazines from all over. To be honest, most are pretty sorry. But a few weeks ago we received a copy of The Dogs of Riverside and Avondale, a 250-page hardback coffee table book. It is hands-down one of the better self-published titles we've ever seen. Nicely written, great photos, simple and elegant design.
The book is the creation of James Lehosit, who laid out the design and took nearly all the photos, of which there are hundreds. Its contents... well, the title sums it up nicely. There are dozens of profiles of neighborhood dogs—Barney, Mabel, Lilly, Puffy, Buddy and more—written by their owners. Bud the Jacksonville Magazine Wonder Dog (pictured), our office mascot, makes a cameo appearance on page 50.
The book also includes a heartfelt dedication to James from his Mom peg. James was killed in an auto accident in June of last year. But he lives on in his book, a true celebration of life and love of man's best friend.
Copies are for sale for $40 at Cowford Trader's in Avondale. Tell 'em Jacksonville Magazine sent you and they'll give a free copy of this month's edition.
