While staying in BANFF:
I highly recommend the CASCADE COURT B&B. The owner made us feel so welcome on our honeymoon, and looked after me with special care when I got sick as a dog! Lovely, modern, roomy home just a few minutes' walk to the center of town. We'd go back in a minute.

Splurge and luxuriate in the POST HOTEL. Get a riverside cabin!

If you can't splurge, there's a amazing youth hostel a few minutes' walk from the Post Hotel -- even if you do stay at the Post Hotel, eat a cheap, delicious and plentiful breakfast at the hostel.
