Organlive.com's Notes

View: Full | Compact

It's our favorite day of the week, Friday. Tune in to Organlive.com today and hear all of the best of our library as rated by our listeners. You can still make requests of the tracks you'd like to hear. Just go to www.organlive.com/new to see what's new in our library or www.organlive.com/search to search for the music you want to hear. Come join us and listeners from all over the world today on Organlive!

For the past month, our listener numbers have been at a record high. In the month of October we were listed as station number 218 out of all the thousands of stations on Live365. That's the highest we've ever been ranked, and we owe it all to you, our listeners.

Unfortunately, with more of you listening, that means more and more requests are coming in. In order to help ensure that everyone gets to hear what they want, we're changing the maximum number of requests a listener can make in an hour to back down to 4. You can still request the same number of tracks each day. And remember that when you make all your requests from the same album or artist, it's going to take us a really long time to get to all of them, thanks to broadcast rules imposed on us. And, if you're just trying to run up the counts of requests for a particular artist, or trying to get certain albums more airplay, those requests generally get thrown out. It's easy to notice, especially when you do it every day!

We apologize for this change, but we want to ensure that everyone gets to hear the music they request. Thanks for listening!

It appears after a weekend of testing that our Now Playing window is working correctly and updating as it should. If you ever notice that it doesn't appear to be updating, you can always force it to update by clicking the "Load Data" link at the bottom of the recently played list.

Now that we have that working again, we're going to be putting a few new albums into the library, as we have a backlog of both new and old recordings to put online. We always appreciate hearing about what you like and don't like, so feel free to use our contact form to tell us what you think.

Remember, you can also call in and leave us a message with Skype. If you leave your name and where you're calling from, we might play it in the broadcast! Also, the end of the month is drawing near, and that means our next email newsletter is about to go out. If you're not receiving that, then go to our contact form and send us your email address, and be sure to click the link to be added to our list. We don't sell or even give away information collected from our site, it's just so we can keep in touch with you.

As always, thanks for listening to Organlive!

A number of you have commented that the Now Playing window is not working. We are aware of the issue and working to resolve it. The problem is an intermittent one in which only certain tracks will not update with new information. If you experience this happening, you can manually reload the data by scrolling to the bottom of the window and clicking the "Load data" link. If it still doesn't work, then you'll have to wait until the next track, or until we can catch and isolate what's causing the problem. Thank you for your patience.

We're starting off this week with a new addition to our library. Our 751st album comes to us from organist Kevin Clarke. A Sacred Romance was recorded on the Pro Organo label, and brings us works of the always popular French composers Louis Couperin, Cesar Franck, Charles-Marie Widor, Louis Vierne, Charles Tournemire, and Olivier Messiaen. This was Kevin's last recording from The Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, but not his first. We also have Kevin on two other albums, and all three of these make up our feature track list this week. We hope you'll enjoy this new addition.

A Sacred Romance Trumpet Tunes With Angels and Archangels
We were so busy adding new tracks over the past couple of months that you may not have noticed we have added to a new label to our page of music donors. We're happy to introduce the German label Spektral Records to our lineup.
Trompetenkonzert
Die Symphonische Bruckner-Orgel Von St. Florian
Italienische Orgelmusik
Ave Maria, Sacred songs from the French and German Romantic Repertory
Papst-Benedikt-Orgel
Papst-Benedikt-Orgel, Internationale Orgelwoche 2007These albums add a number of new composers, organists, and organs to our broadcast, so we're happy to be featuring selections from these albums this week. We hope you'll enjoy these unique new additions to our library, and we look forward to hearing more from Spektral in the future.

Today marks 6 years since the first test broadcasts of Organlive on Live365. It's always nice to look back and see how much the station has grown, from a little 24kbps broadcast with a few hours of music to our 96k stream and more than 9000 tracks. And it's all because of the unfailing support, encouragement, and occasionally the harassment of our devoted listeners. It couldn't be done without all of your suggestions, assistance, monetary donations, and most of all, your ears. We appreciate having listeners as much as anything else.

The next project is a new, even better website for Organlive.com, so keep watching here for updates. In the meantime, thanks for listening, and thanks for 6 great years! We look forward to quite a few more!

Without much time to spare, we made our goal of getting our regular album count up to 750 by August 12. In case you hadn't noticed, over the past 3 months or so, we've been doing our best to get more of the organ music we have on CDs and LPs around our studio edited, encoded, and added to our broadcast library so we can bring it to you. Since we set this goal back in May (or was it June?) we've added more than 100 albums of organ music, both new and old. We now have more than 9000 tracks in our library, and more than 800 hours of music!

Now that that's been accomplished, what's next? Well, we'll continue to add more albums, as we still have many more to add. We'll probably just take a bit more leisurely pace. That can give you time to explore each one as we add it, and make requests to hear the tracks you want. Our next big push is to update our website with a new look, and some new features. We'll have more on that in the future. For now, it's time to sit back and listen to some great organ music!

We're back online now, with some upgraded equipment that will hopefully keep us connected to you even more! Thanks for your patience.

We were offline for a bit tonight while some technical issues were worked out. We have some hardware that we've been using almost since the very beginning that is failing. It's been responsible for some of our other unexpected outages in the past week. It will be replaced tomorrow morning, which means we expect to be offline for a short period, probably around 10am Central. We'll do our best to give you plenty of notice, and hope that this will prevent future problems.

Once again, thanks for your patience, and thanks for listening!
