The Tutors
I'm writing to express my thanks for getting me through my course. I knew I would need to get a recognised qualification if I was going to make any real progress with my career but as you know, I tried to do it on my own and at evening classes but it was hopeless.
The turning point for me was signing up for the CIW course. I can't tell you what a difference it made, the learning materials were great with all the interactive CD's and online activities too but the biggest thing for me was the tutor support. Without that the course would have been a real struggle for me. Now though I have my certification and a new job. At last I feel I am able to make some real progress and I know I have you, the tutors, to thank.
So, thank you!

I have enrolled on the course in September 2003. Given that I gave birth to my girls on 27/08/2003 and 10/08/2005 and that I mainly spend my time looking after them, I still enjoy doing the course (even at a snail rate). My goal was 'not to give up' due to the lack of sleep or time and now that I am half way through the course my goal is: I can do it! I find it helpful that there is a clear course structure and flexible study time for busy people like myself. Thanks ; - ) I am certain you can do it once you set your mind on it…

I started the webmasters course in early January 2003 and was planning to do the course as fast as possible. Best laid plans eh!
I was involved in a Road Traffic Accident on 6/3/2003 that resulted in two broken legs and severe head injuries. As a result of this, I spent 4.5 months in hospital, the first 4-5 weeks in a coma. Resumed the course in 11/03 and have managed to complete all of the TMA's with an average mark of 94.71%. I have now to complete the pre-examinations before going on to do the final exams. I have had great support and encouragement from the Teaching Department and all around me. I hope that my story will be of benefit to other students who follow.

A Dreamer
I was a big dreamer. My dream was to be a great web designer. But as I started the course, the first part was a really informative flooded, yet a boring part. I didn't know what I was getting into. I thought I was learning for something very exciting.
The Progress
As time went by, I found that what I've learned so far could open my eyes much more about the real world of web design indeed. Then I realised, there are so much to learn about a web design. There are elements called infrastructure which you have to master yourself on the internet business.
You're Not Alone
There was a time that I got really frustrated. I spent nearly two months working on my "JavaScript" homework. I then gave up. I submitted my homework with a note to the tutor that I had tried my best but to no success. A week later, surprisingly I got a reply from the tutor with all the answers and guidance's. I gladly realised that I am not alone in this course. I May seem to be doing the course physically alone, but in fact I've got a whole team out there who can support me at anytime I need.
I then keep in touch with them ever since regularly, even on Saturday or Sunday! The tutors are very helpful.
Just Do It!
Have you heard of the commercial tag line from "NIKE"? JUST DO IT!
Keep going chapter by chapter consistently. I make every single day become a meaningful day, even only for 15 - 30 minutes. I am moving on.
Where Am I?
I haven't yet finished my study, but I am at the stage of a 7 year old boy who can read a simple book for 15 pages, and add, multiply, subtract numbers up to 20. I start to get very excited. I know there's still much more to catch up, but I'm getting closer to a full understanding of what Professional Web Design is. It'll be no longer be a dream, I'll try to catch the dream. So, "Just Do It!"

I'm a fifty three year old mother and grandmother who hasn't had any formal education for more years than I can remember. I was always too busy bringing up children, supporting husband in a military career, then working for the extra money that university education for children requires.
I lost my job and contracted cancer all in the same week last October, after a period of adjustment I was faced with a long time off work, and the probability that no one would employ me again. So I decided to take a home course. I chose the Web Design course because I have a home computer and this would.....if I passed the course.......enable me to work from home.
I'm not far into the course but marks amazed me and have encouraged me to go on with it. The help from the tutors (boy do they have patience with me) is exceptional, and I know I can continue and both enjoy the course work and pass the exams so come the end of the year I shall have my own web design company and work from home when I want to. No more wage slave. If I can do this so can anyone else, you just need the right motivation, help, and the will to set aside a certain number of hours in a day to study, take the phone off the hook and buckle down to it. You ca do it to!

Hi,
I always liked to work on computers (at least from the time when I've got one). I was semi-skilled user (Office, Internet, E-mail and of course games) and I thought that I know a lot. But anyway, I had to get some sort of certificate to get any chance for better job after I moved to UK.
When I was looking what college I have to start, I saw add for Skills Train. I checked it out a bit on the Net and decided to go on.
Some day came a man and answered my questions, I signed up for CIW course at once.
When I started I realised that:
1. I knew a lot but not enough
2. It is not easy to join work (six 12 hours night shifts per week) and study
3. Being 37 meant that it is going bit slower to learn something new.
But I managed it all somehow. And because I was talking a lot about my studies with other people, in June I've got my very first job in IT - I fixed software problems on 3 computers and even one printer for a local hotel. When they saw what I can do they asked if I can create a website. This website is now online. It still need some work (mostly I am waiting for stuff from hotel management) but I think that it is rather good one for such greenhorn as I am. And now I am working on my own website to offer my services to next customers.
Thanks to Skills Train.

Success you say, well where do I begin, I have been interested in Computers for a few years now, had jobs fixing them, worked at the local college as computer technician. Even taught in Adult Education (Computing for beginers)
Well last year I saw an advert in a local paper, saying I could earn up to £xxx a week, so I replied as we all did, I got all the information got signed up, why not I thought I was working in a dead end job in a local food factory making Pasta. The money was ok, but the job satisfaction and hours worked wasn't. That's why I decided to get myself CIW Qualified so I can become a Web Manager. In the meantime of starting my course I was diagnosed with Cancer last November, I have had the Chemotherapy and the Radiotherapy and boy that makes you feel really, really low at times, yet I was still able to study slowly but at least I can still do it, while off work with Cancer the factory were I worked burnt down, so I no longer have a job, which weird as though it sounds, has done me a favour I can study even more now, I have setup a Web Site Design Business.
I have had some more cancer cells appear but that is being dealt with over the next few weeks. It's hard going but you live with it, I just looked around when I was in Hospital and thought how lucky I was, I am still alive, and everybody around me is so positive, so after the treatments done I know I can really get down to it and make a success, I owe it to myself and everybody around me, especially Sarah, it's taken me 52yrs to do it but I will get there in the end plus I am already designing a web site for a local company who deals in hospital medical equipment, who knows what this can lead on too.
So all you people out there, keep going don't give up. It's there for the taking, I have also got my partner Sarah signed up to do Web Page Design course, and one of my sons has signed up to do the Cisco Networking course, so that's 3 of us from the same household working on a Skills Train course. So keep up the good work, you are all doing it for your own reasons but the main one is that you are doing it for yourself. You deserve it
Kind Regards to everyone
Tom

I am 52 years old and it's a long time since I was at school, so I thought I would do something to keep my brain active so I joined Skills Train. It keeps me active and I am learning a new career I would recommend it to anyone.
Don't be disheartened at the beginning if you find it hard, you just have to persevere and carry on.
Good luck to all students

Although I haven't yet finished my web design course yet, I am finding this to be very informative and easier then if I was to learn in a classroom. What's better then doing things in your own time and pace? I can't thank the team enough for the quick response and help they have given to me.
Bring it on!!!
