Dexter Bowling's Notes

November 25, 2009 – Andover, Massachusetts – On Monday November 16th, perennial all-star forward Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics hosted his annual celebrity bowling tournament, “Truth Strikes Again,” at Kings Lanes in Dedham, Massachusetts. Proceeds from the event directly benefited Pierce’s charities The Truth Fund and FitClub34, which both benefit disadvantaged youth in Boston and his hometown of Inglewood, California.
Dexter Bowling was there to outfit the athletes and celebrities with top quality bowling shoes, including custom and personalized shoes for Boston Celtics players Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rasheed Wallace. Dexter also graciously provided pairs of shoes that were raffled off to those in attendance.
All in all, there were roughly 600 people in attendance at Pierce’s event including players, coaches and management of the Boston Celtics, former Boston College and New England Patriot quarterback Doug Flutie and current Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker.

November 16, 2009 – Boston, Massachusetts – On September 10th, 2009, Boston Red Sox all-star pitcher Josh Beckett held his third annual “Beckett Bowl” at Lucky Strike Bowling Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Proceeds from the event went to the Josh Beckett Foundation, which supports community-based programs devoted to improving the health and well being of children. At this year’s event, Dexter Bowling was honored to attend and join Josh and his Foundation in being able to give back.
With close to 1,000 participants at the event, Dexter came through for the celebrities and the other participants alike. Dexter Bowling generously donated many pairs of shoes to the athletes and celebrities as well as providing more pairs of shoes to raffle off. The shoes donated aren’t your average, rental-type bowling shoes. Dexter provided pairs of the SST8 – the premier bowling shoe on the market today for men and women. Professional bowlers rave about this shoe, and once athletes got these in their hands, they quickly fell in love too.
Dexter Bowling is based out of New England, currently with its offices in nearby Andover, Massachusetts.
“We had a blast at this year’s Beckett Bowl,” said Dexter Bowling Vice President Bud Clapsaddle. “Dexter is proud to be able to give back to our community by supporting the Beckett Foundation. We hope to continue this relationship with Josh and his foundation for years to come and supporting these kids in the Greater Boston community.”
Stay tuned for more photographs and video clips from the 2009 Beckett Bowl as they begin to surface.

November 6, 2009 – Andover, Massachusetts – On November 16, 2009, NBA All-Star and 2008 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics will be hosting his annual celebrity bowling tournament at the newly opened Kings Lanes in Dedham, Massachusetts. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Pierce’s charity FitClub34 – a free club that provides children from ages 10-14 throughout New England with information, resources and other tools necessary to become more active and physically fit. Dexter Bowling is proud to be a part of this year’s event that supports local athletes and charities.
In preparation for this event, Dexter Bowling’s designers outfitted Boston Celtics stars Paul ”The Truth” Pierce, Kevin “Big Ticket” Garnett, ”Sugar Ray” Allen, Kendrick Perkins and Rasheed Wallace each with their own pair of custom SST8 bowling shoes. Each player will be receiving shoes with their nickname embroidered in Boston Celtic green.
Dexter Bowling will have several corporate personnel on hand at the event raffling off pairs of Dexter Bowling shoes.
“So many NBA players are big bowling lovers and supporters,” said Dexter Vice President Bud Clapsaddle. “We’re thrilled to be able to support Paul Pierce and his wonderful charity, FitClub34, during this great event. We at Dexter hope to support Paul and his charity for years to come.”

November 2, 2009 – Andover, Massachusetts – On October 6th, 2009, Walter Ray Williams, Jr. celebrated his 50th birthday. This milestone granted Walter Ray eligibility to bowl on the PBA Senior Tour, a place most of his PBA Tour competitors surely hoped he would compete exclusively. Unfortunately for them, it seems that Walter Ray will be doing more than merely sticking around the Tour, as he once again displayed why he is one of the all-time greats by winning the Motor City Open. The win marked his 46th career PBA victory, the most all-time.
The top seed in the stepladder format, Williams edged former PBA Player of the Year and Dexter teammate Chris Barnes 238-230 in what proved to be a highly competitive final match. Barnes got off to a tremendous start, striking in seven of his first eight frames, but an open frame in the 9th allowed Walter Ray to capture the lead for the first time in the match. Going into the tenth frame, Barnes still had a chance to win the match with a double strike and 8 pins, but left a ringing 7 pin on his first shot, allowing Walter Ray to rewrite the record books yet again.
“As long as I feel good and stay competitive, I’ll keep on bowling,” said Walter Ray following the match. “I don’t want to be out here if I’m not competitive; I’d be too frustrated. When I can’t compete, when it isn’t fun, I’ll retire. I have no issue with that. But I feel like I’m still doing pretty well.”
Walter Ray refuses to slow down. In fact, he looks as strong as ever.
“I keep saying one more (title), and now it’s 46,” he joked after the match. “Winning a tournament is the best thing in the world, but you never know when it’s going to be the last one.”
“He’s unbelievable, out there competing against and beating guys half his age,” said Dexter Bowling Vice President Bud Clapsaddle of Walter Ray Williams, Jr. “It’s a testament to the shape he stays in, both physically and mentally. What a way for him to start the new season!”
Along with Walter Ray’s victory, Team Dexter was well represented in the Motor City Open. Chris Barnes defeated Bill O’Neill in the semifinals before ultimately suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of the PBA all-time wins leader. Tommy Jones also made the final telecast, starting in the fifth position, but falling to Bill O’Neill in the opening match 201-169.

October 7, 2009 – Andover, Massachusetts – Seemingly regardless of tournament format, lane condition or level of competition, Chris Barnes is almost always in the mix at the end. It’s a testament to his work ethic, his preparation, and his overall level of skill. Recently in Puerto Rico, his talents were on display as he won Masters gold at the 2009 Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships.
In the Masters finals, Chris Barnes defeated Ernesto Franco of Mexico 2-1 to give the United States men’s team a clean sweep of all six gold medals – singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and Masters. After taking Game One of their three game series 246-203, Barnes dropped the second game to Franco 233-208 before rebounding in Game Three 218-188 to take home the title.
“This was a week where I really just rode my teammates to gold medals,” Barnes said following his match. “I was just kind of in the background all week, but it feels good to help up come through and complete the sweep.”
The Masters match play competition featured the top 16 men and top 16 women from the all-events standings after 24 games of competition. Barnes was the only male bowler from Team USA to earn a medal in the Masters event.
The Teen Masters is bowling’s premier High School Championship Event – an event that aspiring teen bowlers use to showcase their skills and talents. With regional qualifying events all over the country, over 1,000 young adults participated in the 2009 Teen Masters. The culmination resulted in 362 national finalists, consisting of 244 boys and 118 girls, to head out to Las Vegas to compete for the ultimate honor. The finals were held at the glamorous Fashion Show Mall in July at a specially constructed lane built specifically for the Teen Masters. Check out the accompanying video to get a feel for the excitement and buzz that the Teen Masters brought to all of its 2009 participants and fans.
Dexter Bowling is very proud to once again be a tournament sponsor for the Teen Masters event. “It’s amazing to see how the Teen Masters has grown over the past decade,” said Vice President of Dexter Bowling, Bud Clapsaddle. “The growth and excitement of youth bowling is what sustains our sport, both presently and for the future. It’s great to be able to reward so many with college scholarship money, and I’d like to personally congratulate each and every participant for their involvement in this year’s event.”
This year’s Teen Masters tournament crowned a Team Champion, a Boys Champion, a Girls Champion, and a “Battle of the Sexes” champion in which the Boys title winner and the Girls title winner squared off to determine the best of the best. For the first time in its history, Teen Masters also crowned a collegiate champion.
Most importantly, the 2009 Teen Masters awarded over $140,000 in college scholarships during the national championships!
If you couldn’t make it out to Las Vegas to see all the Teen Masters action, don’t worry. The television network Versus, home to the National Hockey League and the Tour de France, will be airing the championships’ semi-finals and finals matches in seven installments between November 2nd and November 11th, all at 5:30 pm EST. [/caption]August 4, 2009 – Andover, Massachusetts – Dexter Bowling has always boasted the premier professional bowling staff on the PBA Tour. Dexter is also proud of our affiliation with Brunswick Bowling, one of the premier brand names in the sport. Dexter is the official licensed manufacturer of Brunswick Bowling footwear, and the two brands have shaken things up for the upcoming PBA season.
Team Dexter will feature some familiar, recognizable faces – some of the most successful players on the PBA Tour. Walter Ray Williams, Jr., Tommy Jones, Chris Barnes, Jason Couch and Mika Koivuniemi are all back for another season with Dexter. Lynda Barnes and Shannon O’Keefe are also returning to the Team, to give Dexter some impressive representation from the women’s circuit. New to Team Dexter is Jason Belmonte, the 2008-09 PBA Rookie of the Year. The Australian wunderkind took the PBA Tour by storm with his unorthodox two-handed technique, and his presence is certain to grow on Tour.
For the 2009-10 season, Team Brunswick will put its footprint on the professional bowling landscape. Making the transition from Team Dexter to Team Brunswick are two giants in the sport – Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and Sean Rash. With her 20 career PWBA wins, Carolyn is a bowling icon. She also gives back to the sport with her work for the USBC and her CDB Scholarship Program. Rash, the 4-time PBA Tour Champion, will look to continue the success that has made him one of the most feared young guns on the PBA Tour.
Also joining Team Brunswick is Brad Angelo, a former member of Team Dexter. Brad experienced one of the finer years of his bowling career during the 2008-09 season. Brad broke through as he took home his first career PBA victory. We’re proud to have him back in the fold.
“Many casual bowlers associate Brunswick bowling with other equipment, and not necessarily shoes, and we want to change that,” said Dexter Bowling Vice President Bud Clapsaddle. “Dexter has developed patented technology in shoes like the new Pro-Tred that are exclusive to the Brunswick brand. We’re dedicated to continuing to improve and enhance our Brunswick performance brand image in the marketplace.”
Andover, Massachusetts – July 20, 2009 – When Jason Belmonte exploded onto the international bowling scene, many traditionalists scoffed at his unconventional approach. To some, Belmonte’s two-handed approach was nothing more than a fad that would fizzle out after a short period of time. Others across the sport saw Belmonte as a revolutionary, someone who could change the sport of bowling. There have been a few other bowlers that have tried the two-handed technique, but nobody had yet displayed the proficiency and consistency that Jason does. Count Dexter Bowling in the camp that sees the 26-year-old Australian native as the next big superstar in professional bowling. That’s why Dexter Bowling is proud to announce the signing of Jason Belmonte to its Pro Staff for the 2009-10 PBA season!
During the 2008-09 season, Belmonte enjoyed the most success he has had in the United States so far. In the past, Belmonte had enjoyed most of his success playing internationally – primarily in Europe, Asia, and his native Australia. Belmonte’s defining PBA moment came during the Bowling Foundation Long Island Classic when he defeated Michael Fagan in the championship match to win his first career PBA event. Coupled with other strong showings during the season, this victory served as the springboard to Belmonte being named the 2008-09 PBA Rookie of the Year.
“We are very excited to add Jason Belmonte to our Team Dexter Pro Staff,” said Dexter Bowling Vice President Bud Clapsaddle. “We believe that with guys like Walter Ray (Willams, Jr.), Tommy (Jones), Chris (Barnes) and now Jason (Belmonte), Dexter Bowling has a Pro Staff with an unmatched combination of skill, experience and determination. Jason has been wearing Dexter Bowling shoes for a while now, and we’re proud to officially bring him aboard to our team.”
With a progressive style and attitude, one might figure that Jason Belmonte would wear Dexter’s cutting edge SST8. However, “Belmo” continues to wear his trusted SST6 LE because that’s the shoe in which he feels most comfortable. That’s a testament to the style and performance that the SST6 LE provides bowlers of all skill levels.
Belmonte is scheduled to make his Team Dexter debut in Taylor, MI at The Motor City Open from August 4-August 6, 2009.
