In The City 2009 is this weekend (18th - 20th October) at The Midland hotel and at venues througout the city centre. Started by Tony Wilson, ITC have been finding the next big thing for the past 18 years so that you can find your new favourite bands and the world's music industry can wax their budgets on signing them. It's one of the highlights of Manchester's music calendar and we recommend you get yourself a wristband and check out as much as possible...
Our own Beat The Radar are playing Busk at The Garrat on Sunday 8.30pm & the Friends Of Mine showcase on the Monday at 7.00pm :-) Their new single '18, 19, 20, 21, 22' is out this week as well so it's all good.

The rest of this year's ITC will feature showcases by NME (at Night & Day), BBC Introducing (at Moho), SJM Concerts (at Ruby Lounge), Front Magazine (at Roadhouse), Big Scary Monsters and Same Teens (Hatters Hostel), Now Wave, Friends of Mine, Bella Union, Murkage, Artrocker, Rock Sound and loads more with buzz bands like The Drums, Esben and the Witch, Frightened Rabbit, Unicorn Kid, MAY68, Egyptian Hip Hop, Hatcham Social, Gallops, Copy Haho, The Northwestern and hundreds more. Check out the times here
Wristbands for the full 3 days are only £20 and it's sure to be a hectic three days - get some time off work or lectures and prepare to see more bands and drink more booze than you ever thought possible....

Sam and Me mark the release of their debut album ‘The Battle of Hemsby’ on aA Recordings with a Manchester show at The Deaf Institute alongside Golden Animals & Beth Jeans Houghton this Friday the 14th August.
Hemsby is the seaside town visited by Rowan on his family holidays as a kid. Bordering Great Yarmouth, it is a classic ‘run-down British seaside town full of arcades and a load of tat’. After Sam and Rowan met at college, they used to drive out to Hemsby and in between rounds of crazy golf, they first starting writing songs together. The album artwork was shot in Hemsby and the first 500 copies come with a unique polaroid, Sam and Me wooden chip forks and a copy of the debut 7" 'Boomerang'
Buy the album from here if you cannot make it on the night: http://bit.ly/wSTUf or download from http://www.itunes.com/sama

aA Present a night of psych, folk & suitably leftfield music for high Summer...
GOLDEN ANIMALS
Fabulously out there desert dwelling psych-rock-blues girl/boy two piece with added California sunshine. Influences? Moonlight, desert, symmetry, outsiders, railroads, spiritual revolution, mangos, nomads, electricity, time travel.
http://www.myspace.com/gol denanimals
BETH JEANS HOUGHTON
Geordie folk-pop princess with her Hooves of Destiny. Despite her young years, 18-year-old Beth Jeans Houghton has a talent and energy that has already propelled her from small Newcastle folk clubs to share the stage with international folkie Devendra Banhart at the Green Man festival last year.
Looking like a gothic Gwen Stefani, but sounding more like Vashti Bunyan mixed with Espers' Meg Baird, Houghton has recently developed a relationship with Finders Keepers’ Andy Votel and his wife Jane Weaver, leading to this EP, Houghton's first release on Weaver’s Bird label.

SAM AND ME
After 5 years of perfecting their harmonious pop, Sam and Me have recorded a debut album on aA Recordings to cherish, a bed sit Flaming Lips if you like with echoes of Harpers Bizarre, Heatmiser (Elliott Smith's band), Kings Of Convenience, early Lemonheads filtered through 90's arcade and games consoles.
We launch 'The Battle Of Hemsby' tonight!

So what's on this weekend...?
aA PRESENT:
FUJIYA & MIYAGI
SLAG RABBIT
PLANK!
PLUS DEEJAYS:
LEGO, SOFT PRIEST & YOUNG WILL
FRIDAY 10TH APRIL, 8PM TIL LATE.
DEAF INSTITUTE, MCR.
£8 ADV, MOTD.
Imagine that Fujiya & Miyagi are mask-wearing technicians dissecting music, keen to magnify particles of sound to create a pulsing antidote to the ordinary. They speak in tongues, using language as a rhythm, picking words that sound good, rhyming ‘jigsaws’ with ‘carnivores’.
In total, Fujiya & Miyagi don’t really sound like anything. Instead, they sound like everything condensed into perfectly arranged three minute chunks of infectious pop music, a strange hybrid of James Brown on Valium and Wire gone pop. Or maybe Serge Gainsbourg with a PhD in electronics backed by David Byrne’s Eno-produced scratchy guitar mixed by MF Doom. It’s Darwinism gone mad.
