Did you ever think you could help someone receive an education half way across the world? Please read about Apostolos, who is just one of the many Ugandan children that IOCC has been able to help give an education with your support.

Charlotte Todd is part of the Denver, Colorado Metropolitan Committee and is devoted to helping raise awareness and financial support for IOCC's worldwide humanitarian projects. Charlotte recently competed in a triathlon to raise money for IOCC. Charlotte told her supporters, "If I can inspire you to give, then your support will in turn inspire me to go the distance for someone besides myself." Charlotte completed the triatholon and raised more than $1,000 for IOCC's humanitarian programs. ...

IOCC recently delivered a 40 foot container of hygiene kits, baby supplies and quilts to Gaza for families that are recovering from last January's war. The kits were provided by IOCC partner LWR (Lutheran World Relief) and cleared through customs by ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid). Do you need a project for your Sunday School kids and youth groups? Assemble an IOCC Hygiene Kit today and help families that have been displaced by natural disasters and war get the supplies they need! Supplies are running low, so help us get stocked up today! ...

Orthodox Churches throughout the U.S. will have the opportunity to change lives and share in the work of IOCC around the world on Sunday, November 22 - IOCC Sunday: A Day of Sharing. Join us in helping to make the work of IOCC better known and supported throughout our North American churches! ...

IOCC recently held a conference in Houston, TX, with both regional clergy and laity in attendance, to discuss lessons learned one year after Hurricane Ike devastated the Gulf Coast of Texas. Based on the recommendations from the conference, IOCC will identify and network parishioners with skills relevant in an emergency, catalogue available parish resources, establish Action Teams, offer training in emergency response management to interested clergy and laity, and develop preparedness plans and continuity of operations plans. ...

For millions of people in the developing world, education is a rare privilege, not a right. For those who have been given that privilege, what better way to express gratitude than by using that education to benefit and enrich others? This was driven home to me during a meaningful encounter on my recent trip to review IOCC's work in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. I had the privilege of meeting Wahid and Omar, two young Iraqis who fled their country's turmoil. Like the more than one million Iraqi refugees living in Syria, they do not have permits to work, and the Syrian government, burdened by the influx of so many refugees, cannot provide sufficient services. Wahid and Omar met when they were enrolled in an IOCC computer training class and discovered that they had known each other in Iraq through an internet chat room. ...

“Come, spread your wealth around, be generous, give splendidly to those who are in need. Then it will be said of you as it is in the psalms: He gave alms and helped the poor: his righteousness will endure forever.” — St. Basil the Great

International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is part of a coordinated international effort to bring relief to the thousands that have been displaced by Typhoons Ketsana and Parma, which struck the Philippines in late September. The subsequent floods and mudslides killed hundreds and an estimated 2.5 million people are either homeless or in need of emergency aid. Whole communities have been destroyed with thousands killed or injured and millions left homeless in the wake of the destruction. If you would like to help victims of disasters around the world, like the Asia Pacific Disasters, you can make a financial gift to the IOCC International Emergency Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief as well as long-term support through emergency aid, recovery assistance and other support to help those in need. NOVEMBER VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT

This month's Volunteer Highlight goes to Anne Pourakis Alexandrou of Cold Spring Harbor, New York. On November 1, Anne ran the NYC marathon where she raced to raise funds for IOCC. Through participating in the Clergy Laity Conference in Washington, DC and seeing the video of the tragic fires in Greece, Anne become inspired to become involved with IOCC. "Through hard work, commitment, and dedication that I have experienced in the last 5 months of training for the NYC marathon, IOCC exhibits the same dedication and commitment every single day of every single year!" says Anne. After the NYC Marathon, Anne plans to continue to work as the GOYA advisor in her parish to continue IOCC awareness and fundraising efforts with youth. "They are the next generation and by increasing their awareness they are empowered to make "the difference" in our future", says Anne. To learn more about Anne's marathon journey and how you can help her raise her goal, please visit Anne's Racing To Help Save Lives webpage and make a contribution.

To learn how you can become involved with IOCC, please visit the IOCC Get Involved Today website. If you have any questions, please contact IOCC Assistant Outreach Coordinator Megan Carniewski at mcarniewski@iocc.org or call toll-free 1-877-803-IOCC.

Daily Prayer for IOCC Volunteers

O Heavenly King, Comforter, who grants all blessings, we thank You for Your abundant grace and mercies. Help us to be good stewards of Your treasury through the ministry of IOCC.

Help us to strip ourselves of our earthly adornment, so that the poor may be sufficiently clothed and fed. And, by so loving our neighbor, adorn us with the everlasting pearls of virtue instead.

Where there is suffering, help us to bring Your mercy. Where there is despair, Your hope;
Where there is war, allow us to present You who are the Prince of Peace;
Where there is pain, You who are the Comforter; Where there is hatred, You who are Love;
Where there is death and destruction; You who are the Resurrection and Life.

Daily guide our work in IOCC, so that we may do all things, in every place and at all times, for Your glory. Amen.
