Reaul's Notes
So every year, for the past couple years, Christmas has come and gone and I stand in its wake wondering where I was when it happened. I am not sure if it has been the crazy busy schedule I have had with work, family, and réaul but I always seem to miss getting into the spirit of the season. I have affectionately named my condition "The Holiday Trance." That is exactly how it feels. I feel drugged. Apathetic and indifferent to the decorations, food, and endless parade of parties (some with and without alcohol). I'm sure there is an official prognosis. Like some sort of depression. AND there is probably a drug to treat it with all the normal side affects like cramping of the brain, bleeding from various part the body and yes, even death. I wonder if drug companies even listen to their own commercials.
I've often wondered if this "trance" happens to only me. Is it because I have grown out of Christmas? I'm to busy to slow down and enjoy it? Have I been possessed by Ebenezer Scrooge? I do feel much older than I am sometimes....hmmm....I may be onto something here...
Anyway, I am determined to not be lulled again this year even if it means I dress up in a freaking Santa suit for the remainder of the year. It is too pretty of a holiday to let it pass me by. Lights and decorations everywhere. Giving gifts and enjoying life. Taking the five minutes, no eight minutes to watch two people have a fist fight in Wal-mart over the last "toy of the year." (Although I think this happens regularly at Wal-mart). It was like watching WWF!
I just don't want to be disappointed with myself again this year the day after Christmas wondering why it felt like any other day. I want to be ready and mean it, just like the bell ringer outside the Castleton mall said to me Saturday, "Ima Ready Fo' Chrissmos! Are You?"

Last night marked an important point for the new single, "Take Me Away." We finally got the master back. What does that mean? In short, it is ready to be reproduced and sent to stores.
We have been working on this for months trying to get it just right. For those of you that have been following my blogs, you know that it has been a journey. Travis Palmer, our producer, has really help reshape Reaul's sound. That is no easy task. You have to be a master as tip-toeing through artists' egos and still getting the results you need. LOL! We have learned a lot about ourselves and each other.
Even with all the changes, the guys and I believe that you will really like the new Reaul. The music is fresh and deeply moving. I will be the first to say that this song was difficult to write. The story was so personal. I totally rewrote the song 18 times. Every word and line mattered so much to me.
We will let you know when the official release date will be in the coming weeks. I am so excited! You should be too!

You read it right! We are getting ready to release the single "Take Me Away." Last night marked the final mix session with our producer, Travis Palmer. After starting the recording in June, it comes as a relief to finally have it finished. Now it is off to mastering and to distrobution (iTunes, Amazon, etc.).
It usually doesn't take us this long to complete a recording but this song has become what we consider a defining change in Reaul's style and sound. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds like us, but somehow more mature and well...better. If you have been to one of our concerts lately you will have noticed that we have been playing a whole new set of songs. Working with Travis has really helped us refine our songs and style.
We have learned a lot since the recording of our self-titled debut EP. Within the last year, we have toured on two national tours and played over 130 concert dates. All that time on the road allowed Reaul the chance to see what songs really worked and which ones just didn't make the cut. We found that our sound was becoming "edge-ier" and more unique.
Earlier this summer we decided to revamp everything. Look, sytle and sound. Reaul was evolving into something different. Something much better. We decided that we would debut the new evolution of Reaul at Cornerstone Festival. Simply put, since that performance we have seen a lot of things happen; two new sponsors, another national tour, a magazine interview, a new compilation cd, and some recording label interest. We are catching fire! Wooohooo!
With all that said, we are so excited to release this new song to you. We hope that you like it. Stay tuned for the official release date of "Take Me Away."

It is so nice to be home and sleeping in our own beds! We have a couple days off from The Extreme Tour before we head back out to play the rest of the tour.
So far the tour has been awesome. We have met some incredible bands and fans. By far the Wisconsin dates were my favorite. You guys know how to ROCK.

Well...onto some really exciting news. Late last week I was contacted by The Gap. They asked us to play an Acoustic show at the Ft. Wayne (Glenbrook Sqaure Mall) to help kick off their new jean line. We were honored and flattered to be asked.
The show starts at 7:00 PM on August 20th. We will be performing and giving away music and jeans. I love to give stuff away. If you live remotely close to Ft. Wayne please make it out to see this show. It should be a lot of fun.
Cheers!
Rick
