LyondellBasell wishes to share a very special thank you to each of our Global Care Day volunteers and supporters.

Today, people around the world are enjoying newly planted flowers and trees in their neighborhoods and parks. Bicyclists are enjoying safer paths. Families are enjoying picnics on new and refurbished tables.

All of these improvements and more – 55 projects in all – are the result of LyondellBasell’s tenth annual Global Care Day held yesterday.

From Delaware to Dubai, Italy to Indonesia, and in LyondellBasell communities around the world in 15 countries, more than 3,000 employees, families and friends joined together for the company’s annual Global Care Day community service activity.

Together, we completed what some might call a small miracle. We united from all corners of the globe, each with a different motivation, but all for the same cause – to make a difference in the communities where we live and work. Whether you were a fan cheering our team on through Facebook or one of the many dedicated volunteers, you joined us, you inspired us, and you helped us to make life better for everyone.

We're only 10 days away from May 16, when thousands of volunteers will make a difference in dozens of communities and touch innumerable lives—all in one day!

Do you know what makes the number 10 special this year? We are celebrating the 10th annual Global Care Day. It’s amazing to think of how much this program has grown and all the lives touched over the past decade – from our dedicated volunteers to our friends and neighbors around the world.

Right now, many more people in our communities are facing significant economic challenges. Our goal is to focus on projects that make the most impact using the resourcefulness and energy of our employee and contractor volunteers, their friends and family members.

We are glad to have you as a part of this year’s team. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation!

Almost 300 volunteers have registered online for more than 50 projects that will take place on May 16.

Please encourage your friends and family members to join you in volunteering for Global Care Day. We hope that everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate social responsibility and our commitment to the communities around the world where we operate. Yes, our communities benefit from our efforts but so does every participant because they have the opportunity to get to know co-workers at all levels of our company in a casual atmosphere. Global Care Day is purposeful, yet fun too.

We can’t say it loud enough – YOU make Global Care Day special. On May 16, your experiences, your stories, your memories, and your magnetic energy come together for a something that is greater than any one of us. That’s when it all makes sense, it’s the feeling of knowing we’ve each made the communities where we live and work a better place because we were there. And, we couldn’t get there without YOU.

Global Care Day is a wonderful opportunity to become personally and directly involved in your community and to meet and have an enjoyable time working with colleagues and their families outside of the workplace. What makes Global Care Day unique is that it involves employees and contractors, and their friends and family members from around the world taking action on the same day in their communities. LyondellBasell’s Community Champions work year round to support local schools and organizations and we hope that our neighbors feel that living near our operations is a good thing because we help make the community a better, stronger place to live. Global Care Day is a special day where we go beyond our daily efforts and unite around the world to make a difference in the communities where we operate, work, live and play.

We thought we would take the opportunity to provide each of you with a quick update. More than 45 projects are now confirmed for this year’s Global Care Day and others are added to the list every day. Around the world, Project Coordinators are in full planning mode and volunteers are getting ready for the big day! As project details are finalized, we will continue to update the list of projects under the Events tab of this site and on our map of 2009 projects.

Have you found your local project under the Events tab and posted a RSVP? If not, please do so today! As we continue to post stories and updates, please don’t hesitate to tell us a little more about you! Reply to this note, start a discussion on the Wall for your local event and keep using the Global Care Day Flair gift application to send save-the-date cards, T-shirts, work tools or safety items to your friends and family and invite them to join us!

We want to use this page to keep you updated about all the great things we’re doing at LyondellBasell to prepare for this year's Global Care Day.

As you may know, every year for the past ten years our LyondellBasell family has made helping our communities a top priority through Global Care Day. This year will be no different. Despite the challenges we are currently facing, we’re still committed to giving back and we’re excited as ever to continue this tradition.

Global Care Day is quickly approaching (May 16 will be here before you know it), and we want to use Facebook as a central hub to unite volunteers around the world, make many new friends and stay in touch with one another along the way. Teams at LyondellBasell sites are currently identifying projects in their communities that need "people" to complete various tasks. That is why we started Global Care Day, and that will be one of our contributions to our communities in 2009.

In just the first week of online registration, more than 100 volunteers have signed up to join us on May 16! We encourage each of you to RSVP for the project where you’ll be volunteering (you'll find all projects under the Events tab) and become a fan of our Facebook page (by clicking on the "Become A Fan" link at the top of our page) to receive the latest news. For the next few weeks we will be posting regular updates to keep you informed of the latest project news. We'll also be here to answer your questions.

And don’t forget to invite your friends, family members and colleagues to join in by volunteering their time and talents. Use the new Global Care Day gift application to send save-the-date cards, T-shirts, work tools or safety items. Don’t be shy! Upload your Global Care Day project photos, participate in group discussions and send encouraging and uplifting messages to other volunteers. Basically, have fun!
