New month, new news. My new novel, In My Dark Dreams, is out now via the Book of the Month Club. You can get it by going to BOMCClub.com.
I'm planning on making a video of it in the near future. Set in Los Angeles, sort of a Dragnet docu-style piece, with real locations. Gritty, funny (hopefully) noirish, like the classic Los Angeles mysteries.

The holidays are coming, and so is my newest book. It's called In My Dark Dreams, a contemporary literary thriller set in Los Angeles. The protagonist is a young female Los Angeles County Public Defender who gets involved in her first murder case. I've been wanting to do an L.A. book for a long time, and this is my first one. I'm sure I'll set others there, Los Angeles and southern California is a great location for crime fiction, starting with the master, Raymond Chandler. Location is important to me as both a writer and reader, and I tried to make this book come alive with dozens of unique L.A. places, from the ocean to the Eastside.
In My Dark Dreams will be released shortly after the first of the year. It will be the Main Selection of all the major book clubs: Book Of The Month, Literary Guild, Doubleday Mystery Club. This is a rare occurrence, and I'm proud they felt so strongly about the story that they wanted to showcase it this prominently. I'm in the middle of negotiating a deal with a mainstream publisher as well, so the book can have the widest possible release, later in the coming year.
In the meantime, I'm getting ready for the holiday rush. My kids are coming home from all over the country, so we'll have a good old-fashioned holiday season. As I hope you all will, too.
