AMA Author Profile: Margret Amatayakul

Margret Amatayakul, MBA, RHIA, CHPS, CPEHR FHIMSS, is president of Margret\A Consulting, LLC, a health information management and systems consulting firm based in Schaumburg, Illinois. The firm focuses on providing synergies between healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA and HITECH, and information technology deployment, including electronic health records, health information exchange, and other clinical infrastructure issues.

 

Margret “A” contributed to the Institute of Medicine patient record study and, as a result, helped found the Computer-based Patient Record Institute (CPRI), which now resides within HIMSS as the Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence. She has a long career history including working for direct care providers, with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), as faculty in health informatics masters programs at the University of Illinois and College of St. Scholastica, and finding practical solutions to information systems problems for her clients. She has written several books, chapters, articles, and columns on EHR, HIPAA/HITECH, and workflow and process management for AHIMA, MGMA, HC Pro, CRC Press, Healthcare Financial Management Association, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

 

She holds a master’s degree in business administration with concentrations in marketing and finance and maintains current professional credentials as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS), Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR), and Fellow in the Health Information and Management Systems Society (FHIMSS).
