PHOTO: Retiring CAIR Board Member Dr. Ihsan Bagby Honored

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/18/13) – On March 15, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) honored retiring national board member Dr. Ihsan Bagby at a ceremony during the Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization’s 10th annual National Council meeting in Arlington, Va.

 

He has been on CAIR’s national board since 1995.

 

At the ceremony attended by CAIR board members and representatives from chapters nationwide, Dr. Bagby was presented with an award, which stated: “Presented to Dr. Ihsan Bagby from the board and nationwide staff of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), in recognition of your almost two decades of dedicated leadership and exemplary service to our organization and to the Muslim community.”

“Dr. Bagby’s exceptional vision and leadership helped steer CAIR and the larger community through a challenging period in our nation’s history and we offer him our gratitude,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

 

Dr. Bagby is currently Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at University of Kentucky. His most recent research has focused on Muslims in America.

 

In 2001, he published the results of the first comprehensive study of mosques in America, entitled “The Mosque in America: A National Portrait.” In 2012, he authored an updated study entitled “U.S. Mosque Survey 2011.”

 

He is currently working on a book about African American Muslims.
