Name: Ingrid Burrichter
Your position at the ESO: Patron & Donor Services Manager

PICK OF THE WEEK: Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major
Year Written: 1806
CD: Beethoven - The Piano Concertos, Disc 2.
Label: Deutsche Grammophon
Conductor: Leonard Bernstein
Orchestra: Vienna Philharmonic
Soloist: Krystian Zimerman, piano.

Why It's My Pick:
Plain and simple, this is a genuinely beautiful piece. It fascinates me to hear the many ways Beethoven broke the "rules" of the time period within the work, such as how he begins the piece with the piano soloist rather than a long orchestral introduction. Some trivia about this piece: Beethoven premiered this piano concerto on a cold December night at a concert that also presented his 5th and 6th Symphonies, his Choral Fantasy, as well as an improvisation and movements from a Mass. What a night that must have been!
