UPDATE | June 26, 2011 1:00PM
After the recent tornadoes affected several cities and towns across Western Massachusetts local law enforcement officers and firefighters came together with chainsaws and manpower. These individuals descended on the town of Monson, MA and have been providing critical assistance with the removal of trees and debris from houses, driveways, and outside structures. Their swift action has allowed the devastated families access to their homes and what is left of their belongings.
Over 40 individuals have volunteered to help the Chainsaw Response Team since Saturday, June 4th and the townspeople have been extremely grateful. We would like to thank ALL the individuals who contributed in some way! You are true heroes to the people of Monson!
As of Friday June 24th the Chainsaw Response Team had one of its largest crews yet. Although the team is strictly made up of volunteers, it relies heavy on the much-needed donations to keep operating at this essential level of assistance. It costs approximately $1500.00 a day to operate. That number stays the same whether they have ten or fifty people volunteering. It may seem high, but profit-based tree companies are more than double that amount for only one residence. The Chainsaw Response Team provides no-cost tree removal and covers multiple residences in one day.
The crew's hope is to continue this service throughout the town of Monson for weeks to come. With much-needed monetary donations to help offset the cost of heavy machinery rental and fuel, the volunteers will continue to be more efficient and ultimately help the devastated families of tornado ravaged Monson.
Without your help it will be difficult to continue. We urge you to donate.
An account has been opened with Florence Savings Bank and they are ready to accept your donations big or small! If you would like to make a donation please visit any Florence Savings Bank location and make a donation to the "LE Chainsaw Crew Monson Tornado Relief". Donations can also be mailed in.
