Oklahoma City - Vertical Church Tour
Update from Worship Leader, Seth McConkey
7 days and 7 cities down!
With our first week complete, we made it to Dallas for our first day off today. Here are some highlights from each place we’ve been so far…
Minneapolis MN: Our kick off event was very highly attended, great energy, James got off to a fantastic start with his first message of 40. God reminded the band very quickly that He was in control…Jacob’s computer quit right in the opening song, so we had to play without click, cues, and tracks. In hindsight we were very thankful to the Lord that He made sure we knew we couldn’t do it on our own strength, but needed Him to be the only focus. It was very humbling and perfect timing for our band to experience that on the first night.
Davenport IA: Highlights were being at the very rocking Harvest Bible Chapel there and getting to meet the guy from the Change Partners - God at Work video.
Peoria IL: A HUGE event! They had to rent more chairs in the conference center. Worship time was fired up to the max. Great to see many Walk in the Word listeners who were so pumped to worship and hear from God’s word. We also had some of our other worship leaders from Harvest come down to say hi and support us in Peoria…it was a fantastic night!
Kansas City KS: Back to a Harvest Bible Chapel in Kansas City. We all agreed how confusing it was as to where we actually were. Kansas? Missouri? Did we drive through St. Louis last night? And why did we eat at “Oklahoma Joes” for lunch? Haha…despite our confusing, the night was a great time together. The message this night was especially powerful and well received by the congregation.
St. Louis MO: We took a very quick group outing to the iconic Arch, but that was far from the highlight of our time in St. Louis. Getting to see Pastor Michael Sust’s Harvest Bible Chapel volunteers and their brand new building was inspiring. They are a relatively small church of about 200, but God has just blessed them with an incredible new building that gives them a ton of room for growth. All the people there are so faithful to believe that God will fill the seats in their new worship center. They were a very welcoming group and we had a ton of fun serving the Lord alongside them and leading their church in worship and teaching.
Memphis TN: For our first time having an event in this city it went very well. We really enjoyed the hospitality of the people in Memphis and from HighPoint church. A small highlight for me personally was getting to meet a young guy who was in the front row worshiping his heart out and dancing around and singing so loud to the Lord during worship. I met him after the service and he was so encouraging and his love and passion for worshiping God was a great shot in the arm for me.
Oklahoma City OK: On our seventh day in a row of changing cities and doing a high-impact service we didn’t hold anything back—just like we know God won’t ever hold back either—as we led the small, but excited group of people in OKC! The highlight was being at LifeChurch.tv and meeting their great team there. Pastor James and Pastor Craig Groeschel both recorded a sermon for Harvest during the afternoon and both of them brought the Word so strong! Can’t wait for Harvest to see those sermons.
Editor’s note: Join us in praying with us today that Pastor James and the tour team are refreshed and strengthened on their day off, and encouraged in spirit to lean into the next round of Vertical events!
