Meet Jason
Meet Jason Glenwright
'At Sea, Staring Up’ Lighting Designer & true lover of 'lights'
1. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR LOVE?
I have searched, driven and been committed to everything that is love.
2. HOW DID YOU BECOME A LIGHTING DESIGNER?
I always noticed the lighting used in high school productions and just became fixated by it! So I joined the schools technical team and discovered this passion for theatrical lighting. After High School, I studied lighting further at QUT and by doing that, helped form great connections with some incredibly inspirational theatre practitioners from the industry. Plenty of design work grew from there.
3. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE & WHY?
I wish I could fly so I could touch up the focus of lights in the roof during a lighting plot session if need be!
4. WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR ‘AT SEA, STARING UP’ LIGHTING DESIGN?
I like to gain inspiration from a variety of sources. One of the most important sources is Finnegan’s beautiful text itself. I also gain a lot of inspiration from the thoughts of the rest of the production team- Luke’s designs, Quincy’s beautiful scores, and most importantly Suellen’s (the director) vision. I believe the best theatre is created through flawless collaboration between all artists involved.
5. WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Meeting and collaborating with amazing creative people in production teams that inspire me to create and continue to think outside the box. I also love working with light!
6. HOW DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WILL FEEL WHEN THEY SEE THIS PRODUCTION?
The great thing about theatre is that it can allow everyone to go on a different emotional journey.
