HAZLETON – U.S. Congressional candidate Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta proudly accepted the endorsement of one of the nation’s leading pro-life groups.

The National Right to Life Committee endorsed Mayor Barletta in his race against incumbent Congressman Paul Kanjorski.

“The endorsement reflects your commitment to renewing a culture of life, not only in Pennsylvania, but throughout the nation,” David N. O’Steen, executive director, and Karen A. Cross, political director, wrote in the group’s endorsement letter. “We look forward to working with you in Congress to restore legal protection for innocent life – unborn children and medically disabled or dependent persons whose lives are threatened by abortion or euthanasia. The countless Americans who respect the sanctity of innocent human life appreciate your willingness to serve.”

“I am pro-life, so receiving this endorsement from the National Right to Life Political Action Committee makes me extremely proud. Innocent life should be protected at every stage of development. I support the restoration of legal protection for innocent human life, and I believe partial-birth abortion is a horrific act and should be banned,” Mayor Barletta said.

Kanjorski received a 50-percent rating by NARAL Pro Choice America, a leading national abortion rights group. (http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/choice-action-center/in-congress/congressional-record-on-choice/pennsylvania.html).

A 50-percent rating means Kanjorski voted for the NARAL Pro Choice America agenda half of the time. NARAL Pro Choice America praised Kanjorski’s support of “Family-Planning Services.”

“For years, Mr. Kanjorski has claimed he is pro-life, but this recent NARAL Pro Choice America rating tells a shockingly different story,” Mayor Barletta said. “Unlike my opponent, I am staunchly pro-life. I will oppose the efforts of some to increase or expand the protection or establishment of legal euthanasia, abortion, and human cloning.”
