Interview with Ivi Adamou (Cyprus at Eurovision 2012)

- Hello, Ivi and first of all our congratulations for being selected Cypriot representative at Eurovision 2012! How do you feel now?

- Hello! I feel very honored to represent my country. Eurovision for me is like European party of music and I will have fun there, that's for sure. 

 

- How you have been invited to take part in the contest and what was your first reaction when you’ve heard the proposal?

- I was invited by my country's broadcaster RIK to represent them in the contest in August and I was very happy and excited from the moment I've heard this proposal.

 

- You’ve been performing three entries at the national final, was the chosen one your favourite as well?

- I loved all the songs! Cyprus loved LaLaLove so here we are.

 

- How can you describe your entry in one phrase?

- Powerfull, passionate and full of energy. I'm very happy with my song, it is about love, and love is everyday thing in our lives, we will never stop talking about love or writing songs about it. 

 

- What will be your aim in the international competition?

- We have all worked very hard for the competition and we are hoping for the best. It is a lifetime experience and we are going to have the time of our life. My goal is to have fun, meet friends and represent my country as good as I can.

 

- Can you tell us about the idea behind the music video to your entry, and how the shootings went?

- The inspiration was the story of Snowhite. The shootings went well allthought it was a very cold day. We had a lot of fun and we are very happy that everyone loved the outcome.

 

- Whether there are plans to release other versions of your contest entry, other languages, remixes?

- We have already released some remixes.

 

- What else will be part of your Eurovision preparations campaign?

- A lot of rehearsals for clothes, vocals, dancing.

 

- Can you introduce your stage backing team, if they are already known? 

- Yes, I will have two dancers - Tatiana Dimitriadis and Olga Pilaki, and three backing vocalists - Bjorn Djupstrom, who is one of the songwriters, and Victoria Taylor and Wiveca Hartmann Knudsen, who will also do some dancing. Chali Jennings, who worked with likes of Elena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas is our choreographer and Elena Patroklou, who represented Cyprus at Eurovision 1991 is our vocal coach, and all team has been working very hard, everything is going very well. 

 

- What countries you have visited during your promotional tour?

- We've been to Bulgaria, my mum is from Bulgaria and all my family lives in Shumen, then London, and naturally Greece. 

 

- What do you think is more important for Eurovision success: song, performer or the show?

- It is a combination of all.

 

- Have you listened to the other entries taking part in the competition? Russia is sending Grannies band to Eurovision “Buranovskie Babushki”, have you heard the song and what are your impressions from it?

- I really liked it!!!! I think this year all songs are great. 

 

- What are your feelings on performing in Baku, going to Azerbaijan, what are your associations with this region?

- I am very happy and excited and really looking forward. I can't really wait for the semifinal night. 

 

- Let's speak briefly on your career. What you consider as the main highlight in it?

- The first highlight was my participation in XFactor where it all started and the second of course is Eurovision.

 

- Have taken part in any music competitions before, and do you like to compete in general?

- I have taken part in a music contest in cyprus when I was very young and then Xfactor as I said above.

 

- What is your preferable style of music? What are the singers, having the biggest influence on you?

- I love pop music but I am a huge fan of ballads too.

 

- Do you plan any new releases soon, are you working on a new songs?

- We will plan everything after the Eurovision Song Contest.
