Grinder - Get Paid or Get Played.

About: Grinder is an urban crime drama series centering around The Draytons, a black mob family dealing in drugs, racketeering, and murder.

The project is currently non-union and volunteer only.  The pilot episode will be used as proof of concept to pitch to broadcasters in order to secure funding for this ongoing series.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Evander Drayton: male, black, late 20’s.  Cool, calculated, and well educated, Evander controls his illegal empire with business like professionalism.  His operation is run with a very particular code and he has no tolerance for those who fail to uphold these standards.  The demands of his work have contributed to a strained and distant relationship with his wife, Chadine, but he remains dedicated to his only son, Alexander.

Aaron (A-Dray) Drayton: male, black, late 20’s.  A-Dray is Evander’s junior by several years.  He’s the true street gangsta.  He lives for the perks the game has to offer: money, women, notoriety, but has a competitive compulsion towards his brother that has found new life recently.

Nero Williams: male, black, late 20’s.  Nero is Evander’s right hand man.  Cold and calculating but with an uncommon insight, Nero comes from a military background that is unknown to most. 

Detective Fadin: male, white, 30’s.  A homicide detective that is highly valued for the stats he brings to the department but little else.  He runs his own game, blurring the line between his job and personal gain.

Detective McAnders: female, any ethnicity, late 20’s.  McAnders is a newly promoted Detective from general assignment to homicide division and is Fadin’s new partner, much to his dismay.  She is still relatively green but competent nonetheless.

Twix: male, black, 20’s.  Twix is a mid level street lieutenant in Evander’s criminal empire.  Loyal and ambitious, he’s always gunning for favor but his foolhardy nature sometimes interferes.

Scoot: male, black, 20’s.  Another mid level street player, Scoot is Twix’s partner in crime and is rarely seen without him. 

Swifty: male, black, teens.  A young kid trying to earn his way on the streets, tagged by A-Dray for a big job, he quickly finds he may be in way over his head.

Chadine: female, black, late 20’s.  As Evander’s longtime wife, Chadine has grown into a lavish lifestyle that has fed into her spoiled and selfish personality.  She has grown apart from Evander over the years and now only sees him as a provider.  She only sees want she wants and what she isn’t getting.

Alexander: male, black, 10 years old.  Alexander is Evander’s only son.  He is mostly left to his own devices, raised mostly by the school system and the caretakers that look after him when his parent’s aren’t around or, in Chadine’s case, don’t want to deal with him.  Though mostly kept in the dark, Alexander is starting to grasp what his father does for a living.

SGT. Lingerton: male, white, late 30’s.  The unsympathetic and highly sarcastic staff sgt in the homicide division.

Constable Simms: male, any ethnicity, mid 20’s.  A patrol officer that keeps his ear to the ground and knows a lot of the ins and out of what’s really happening in the department.  He’s quick to offer up some friendly advice to McAnders but knows better than to get into specifics.

Isiah Drayton: Male, black, mid 30’s.  Circa 1990.  Father to Evander and A-Dray.   Isiah is imposing and abusive, quick to dole out harsh lessons and even abuse to his children and even his wife.  He is a small time independent drug runner that operates out of his home.

Edine Drayton: Female, black, mid 30’s.  Circa 1990. Mother to Evander and A-Dray, she is a caring parent and wife, but disapproves of he husband’s business and his aggressive nature.

Eddie: male, Hispanic, 20’s.  An enterprising bartender that has a secret deal with A-Dray.

TJ: male, black, mid 20’s.  Local pimp and hustler.  He’s the go to guy for all your many needs.  Has a running deal with Scoot.

Young Evander: male, black, 10 yrs.  A-Dray circa 1990.

Young A-Dray: male, black, 7 yrs.  A-Dray circa 1990.

Lean: A street hustler and best friend of Swifty who has big plans that are rather short lived. 

Detective Worth: Male, any ethnicity, late 30’s.  A detective in the homicide division.

CSI: Lead CSI agent.

Mike: Local street kid.

Tre: Local street kid.

Constable Guretto: male, Hispanic, late 20’s.  A patrol officer.

Detective Lee: Male, Asian, 30’s.  A detective in the homicide division.
