Step into the whimsical fanasty world of fashion & costume.  Artfully created by designers--Anna M. Zamarripa and Joolie Cahill.

She escaped to a dark forest, where she stayed for a long time. Her mother heard nothing more from her.

October’s window installation is the collaborative brainchild of designers Anna M. Zamarripa and Joolie Cahill, both Somerville residents.  It is a world created almost entirely with fabric loosely based on a quote from a Brothers Grimm’s fairytale.  Each artist contributed garments which are defined and described in each gallery window. Together they draped and manipulated over 30 yards of fabric to shape a stately home, a forest haven and the sparkling night sky.  The installation tells the story of a young girl who must tear herself away from her home before she falls under its spell and becomes trapped like her mother.  She escapes into the wild and finds a world with magical creatures where she can be her true self.

About the Artists

Joolie Cahill has been making catastrophes stylish since 1984. Growing up in Portsmouth, RI, she quickly realized that she was eccentric, artistic, and very silly, while her town- Portsmouth was extremely conservative. She used fashion as her creative outlet and in 2007, she graduated college from Mount Ida College with a bachelor's degree in fashion design. She left the corporate fashion world in 2010 and entered small business town as the owner/designer for I am Joolienn. In her company, Joolie creates unique handmade, one-of-a-kind - women's apparel, accessories, jewelry, and art- using vintage, recycled, and cruelty free materials.

Anna M. Zamarripa began her sewing career creating costumes for local dance companies.  A professional dancer herself, she understands the need to design visually stunning garments with impeccable fit for movement and comfort.  Building on her studies at the School of Fashion Design in Boston she also creates custom clothing for special or every day occasions from bridal wear to swimwear.  She enjoys working with a variety of fabric and styles but she can’t deny her love for a fabulous cocktail dress.  You can see samples of her creations at
