"We Are The Change" - The West Hollywood 13th Annual Transgender Day Of Remembrance Is Sunday, November, 20, 2011
Los Angeles, November 10, 2011 – The 13th Annual Transgender Day Of Remembrance March and Program will take place on Sunday, November 20th in West Hollywood, California. The theme of this year’s program is “We Are The Change”.
The Transgender Day Of Remembrance is set aside annually to memorialize those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The Day Of Remembrance serves to publicly mourn and honor the lives of fallen trans brothers and sisters and to bring public awareness to ongoing hate crimes against the transgender community.
The Day Of Remembrance activities will begin with a march from Plummer Park (7377 Santa Monica Blvd.) to the Matthew Shepard Triangle (Santa Monica Blvd & N. Crescent Heights Blvd.), where the program and traditional reading of the names of transgender individuals who have died at the hand of continued anti-trans violence will commence.
The schedule for the day will be as follows…
- 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. – Assembly at Plummer Park
- 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. – March to Matthew Shepard Triangle
- 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Day Of Remembrance Program and Reading Of Names
The organizing committee for the West Hollywood Day Of Remembrance is also pleased to announce that author, producer and transgender activist Chaz Bono will be in attendance for the march and program.
In addition, the West Hollywood planning committee is proudly taking part in the Transgender Day Of Remembrance Social Media Mission. The mission is to bring awareness of the violence and hate crimes that plague the trans community by changing profile pictures on Facebook and Twitter beginning on Thursday, November 17 through the TDoR weekend. Refreshments will be provided and a shuttle service is available to bring people back to Plummer Park following the program.
