Edgewood Heights, a personal care community in New Bethlehem, Pa. celebrated its 4th annual Strawberry Festival last Friday, June 22.

Many strawberry treats were available at the event including strawberry pies, jams, shortcakes and fresh strawberries by the quart.

The event also hosted a Chinese Auction and a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds from the event went towards Edgewood Heights' charitable care fund.

The festival attracted over 100 people, and fundraised $1400 for Edgewood Height's charitable care fund. The charitable care fund is for residents who have exhausted their financial resources and cannot able to pay for the full cost of their care.

The festival also featured a 'Strawberry Showdown' dessert recipe contest. Judges for the contest included residents Russ Colwell and Betty Wright, employees Lori Belfield and Brenda Miller, and community members Shelly Shoemaker and Bobbie Andrews. The winning recipe was submitted by Tammy Starcher, the wife of Edgewood Heights’ Maintenance Tech Harold Starcher, whose Creamy Strawberry Pie won the hearts and votes of 4 out of the 6 judges.

Other recipes submitted were Strawberry Cookie Surprize, Strawberry Banana Squares, Balsamic Strawberry Topping, Strawberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Pretzel Salad, and Duff's Cake.

A very special thank you to this year's sponsors Klingensmith's Drug Store, Oakland Church of God, Country Acres, Terra Works and Dr. Snyder.
