108 Strong for Fair Elections

The Fair Elections Now Act has picked up 108 cosponsors in the House of Representatives!

Why does this matter?

Above all, when a bill picks up a significant number of cosponsors, it signals that it's a serious bill and shows busy staffers that the bill's moving forward. As of October 12th, 3,787 bills and resolutions had been introduced thus far in the 111th Congress (THOMAS). Of these, only the top 3% of bills and resolutions have garnered over 100 cosponsors.

Strong cosponsor support also highlights the fact that public funding is gaining momentum in Congress. The bill picked up 13 cosponsors in September and 17 more in the first half of October!

Cosponsors are vital to a bill's progress in Congress. For example, as the Committee on House Administration heard the Fair Elections Now Act this summer, it was important that committee member Rep. Michael Capuano, a cosponsor and public funding champion, was there to step up and fight for public funding.

You can help recruit more cosponsors by writing, calling and visiting your Representatives and Senators.
