National membership is available to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in a communication sciences program or related major.

- Founded:
- NSSLHA was established on July 1, 1972 through a merger of Sigma Alpha Eta and the ASHA Student Journal Group. Originally the organization was named the National Student Speech and Hearing Association. In 1980 the name officially changed to NSSLHA.
