A new analysis seems to put to rest concerns that eating too much soy could affect testosterone levels in men. Soy contains weak plant estrogens and many have worried that the increasing popularity of soy products (and the ubiquitous use of soy-based additives and ingredients) could be...

Seems to me that it probably is actually the soy affecting men's hormone levels... not because of the low levels of estrogens but because 85% of the soy beans grown in North America are GMO... the genetically altered soy bean is starting to have it's adverse affects in just 10 short years of being on the market... yet another outstanding reason to eat only organic foods

I'll bet at the end of the money trail you will find that Monsanto funded that study (either directly or indirectly)

Q. I recently read that the standard BMI calculation and guidelines aren't accurate for African-Americans and other ethniticies. Can you explain why and do you have recommendations for ethnic specific guidelines? A...
Andre at 7:07am June 27
It's not really accurate for anyone because there is no mechanism to account for lean (non fat) mass. The most accurate way to calculate this is hydrostatic (underwater testing). Skinfold calipers are a good way too as long as you use multiple (I like 9) sites.
Diane at 2:01pm June 27
WHAT DOES IT MATTER IF YOUR BLACK,HISPANIC OR WHITE FAT IS FAT, PEOPLE NEED TO GET OVER WHAT ETHNITICE YOU ARE!!
Dipa at 11:31am June 30
It does matter, because different ethnicities have varying risks of developing certain diseases. For example, Asian Americans develop heart disease at lower BMIs than Caucasians. Does that makse sense?

That was an excellent answer. Many people want to lose weight but they go with the more processed foods and wonder why they are eating nutritional food but can't seem to lose weight! The more pure form the better!
Soquel at 6:11am June 24

"Men's diets tend to be woefully inadequate in fiber and antioxidant vitamins C and E." ...LOL. How factual. My mother was more direct, with everyday urgency, "Eat your darn vegetables!"

Juliana Is raw always better? My understanding is some foods, especially legumes and other vegetables have more nutritional value cooked. I have a friend who is convince that since our early ancestors ate raw, we should too. I say, we discovered fire for a reason! So what's the answer, and is there a handy list for raw v. cooked?

Tori Voss Knowing what you eat is very important as well as your family medical history. These two things together give you perspective on what is happening to you when you eat foods. What foods raise your glucose, which foods trigger high cholesterol for you, and other factors. All these things added together along with exercise affects your mood, energy levels, and overall health on a daily basis.
