Ah..ok...was curious, though, as to why this particular post didn't have a share button next to the like button (like the other posts do). Guess it's not important.

Easy: Banning BPA. And yes, that is an option. One that just happens to be on the table in Salem (thank you, OEC). But to the point: Earlier this week there was an annoying - and inaccurate - post about...

Oregon Environmental Council In Oregon, more than 30 percent of greenhouse gas emissions comes from vehicle transportation, including freight and passenger vehicles. The Douglas County Global Warming Coalition and OEC presented a three-hour forum last Thursday in Roseburg on transportation solutions for a healthy climate for Oregon.

if you read this, try to ignore the right-wing babble commentary below. Not all of us in Roseburg bury our head in the sand when it comes to climate change or the need to think outside the box and come up with new solutions.

Thanks Keith - good hearing from you! And yes, we've found that most any environmental story gets some pretty wacky responses - most of which having nothing to do with the story in the first place!

You make a difference when you put your money with your values. Buying organic and sustainable local food shows grocery stores, restaurants, and farmers that products supporting our health, environment and economy are more than a passing trend; they are the future.

Oregon Environmental Council We received an email last week asking some good questions about the safety of vinyl and melamine. Dr. Renee Hackenmiller Paradis looks at vinyl, melamine, potential health effects of each, and some of the science behind it all.

Most consumers do not know that a "3" in the recycle symbol indicates that the plastic is made of PVC, and therefore recycling those products could inadvertently render thousands of potentially recycled containers useless.

...and don't forget the white lead "pigment" used to color all kinds of cheap vinyl items, like mini-blinds. Send any of that stuff you own to the landfill, ASAP.

Vinyl! Ack!!! I just love the way companies now answer my question "what type of plastic is this item made of?" with "pthalate free poly vinyl chloride". Oh, that sounds SO much better than "PVC"! NOT buying it... literally!

Oregon Environmental Council Don't miss this great video looking at the sustainable cranberry farmers of Clearwater Cranberries and their great work on Oregon's South Coast.

Oregon Environmental Council

Oregon Environmental Council Looks like this week is going to be Clearwater Cranberries week. The sustainable cranberry harvest began last weekend on Oregon's South Coast, and OEC's Jen Coleman was there to capture the action with some great photos and a first hand account.

The Oregon Environmental Council worked with the Farr and McKenzie families to launch Clearwater Cranberries, a collective that grows cranberries in a way that protects salmon habitat in local rivers.
