Arrakeen Sand Chigger In what language of what desert does "Chisra Sala Muad'Dib" mean "The Glorious Origin of Muad'Dib"? Tatooine Jawan?

Are you suggesting that you actually speak Chakobsa, and that Chisra Sala Muad'Dib is incorrect? That's what you're saying?

Um, Candice, the Fremen spoke a form of Arabic as their normal, everyday language. Chakobsa was what they used only in certain situations, like when Stilgar's group first finds Jessica & Paul. Chakobsa was also the basis of the Atreides battle language.

Frank Herbert took real Arabic words and sometimes altered their form or meaning or both. Like ... See MoreMuad'Dib from mu'addib "etiquette teacher", or Sareer, Leto's private desert, which actually means "bed", etc etc etc. Chisra Sala is not any form of Arabic that ANYONE recognizes.

Candice Kerrick Dune is 700 pages of pure genius! I've said that since I first read it 22 years ago at age 12 and I'll say it as long as there is breath in my lungs! Love this story in all its incarnations, truly! I haven't bought Paul of Dune or The Winds of Dune yet; waiting to see if I get a Kindle for Xmas!

Matthew Peterson

Matthew Peterson Hey Dune fans! Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson were kind enough to be on my online radio show this week with Anne Rice, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Orson Scott Card. Brian talked a lot about his father, Frank Herbert. Listen to the interview at http://theauthorhour.com/brian-herbert/

Bravo, Matthew! A wonderful kid-glove technique you have! (I'm going on just the transcript at the moment, but I'll download the actual show later when I have a faster connection.) How much set up was there beforehand? Did they vet your questions? I mean, I'm sorry, but there's nothing new here; it's the same ole questions and answers we've been ... See Morehearing all this year, since well before the Winds tour in the summer. (And what's with the twenty-year-old picture of BH?) When is someone going to ask them the REAL, HARD questions?

Well, I actually got about 40 minutes of extras that didn't air on the show. You can listen to it in the bonus section, but it's going to take FOREVER to transcribe. I only had a 12 minute segment with them on the show, so tons got cut out. I was tempted to make it a 2-part series, but I'm already backlogged on authors. Glad I made that decision as Dean Koontz and Christopher Paolini just jumped on board for the show.

Characters from the House books also turn up in Winds of Dune. Half of that book takes place between the House books and Dune.

Don't know of an official one, but if you google "Dune RPG" you'll find some (apparently) fanfic ones.

There was an official pen and paper Dune RPG game made several years back but it didn't last very long. The only book that I know of is the core rulebook which is hard to find in hardcopy. If you do, it'll run you about 100 bucks. There is a torrent for it out there though. Not sure if this is the one you are referring to.

Hunchback Jack I'm rereading Dune for the first time in a long while. Taking my time, too, and I'm picking up a lot of details I hadn't remembered. Even in the first part of the book, Leto's preparations for the Harkonnen attack, for the long-term relationship with the Fremen, and for Paul's inheritance of the stewardship of Arrakis,... are quite complex and nuanced. Great writing, too.
